source, a Tamera Phelps, 308 Vaught St.. Somerset, KY 42501 wrote a letter,
date unknown, to the Caswell County Messenger entitled "Phelps family
descendants search Caswell relations": I am writing to you in an effort to
track down any descendants of the Phelps family which resided in Caswell County
circa 1800. My ancestors, Obediah Phelps, left Caswell County around 1806 along
with his brothers, Larkin and Ambrose, and several members of their wives
family (their wives were three sisters, Peggy, Ann, and Sally Dye). Among the
people making the trip to Pulaski County, KY, were several Dyes, Randolphs and
Earps. Obediah Phelps and his brothers Larkin and Ambrose, left behind their
mother, Mary Bateman, and several brothers and sisters: William, Reuben,
Thomas, Lucy, Betty, and Polly. Their father, James Phelps, died in 1786.
Obediah sister Lucy, married a Willis Buchanan Smith in 1794. Thomas married a
Mary Pass. William married a Jane Warren in 1786.

Phelps and Elijah Malone are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency, David
L. Swaim Esquire, Governor , Capitan-General and Commander-in-Chief, in and
over the said State, in sum of Five Hundred Pounds, current money, to be paid
to the said Governor, his successors or assigns: To which payment, well and
truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators,
jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals, and
dated this 25th day of February 1834.
The
Condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas the above bounded
Thomas H. Phelps and hath made application for a License for Marriage intended
to be solemnized between him and Elizabeth Eubank of the County aforesaid: Now,
in case it shall not appear at anytime hereafter, that there is any lawful

afternoon after an illness of three years. He was a farmer and had lived in

of Route 1 Cedar Grove, were held at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday at Prospect Hill
Baptist Church by Elder W. C. King and the Rev. C. Williams. Burial was in
Cedar Grove Methodist Church cemetery. Mrs. Phelps died at Watts Hospital in
Durham Sunday after a short illness. She was a life member of Prospect Hill

Volumes II and III. Gladys was an descendant of William Warren Wrenn born in
Ireland on May 05, 1812, and came to Virginia in 1824 when he was twelve years
old. His father, an Englishman, left England and traveled to Ireland where he
married. After his Irish Mother (Elizabeth ?)
died, his father, brother and he left Ireland and came to America.
Warren settled in Person County two miles south of Roxboro near N. C. 49. It is
believed that his father's name was Francis Wrenn, and his brother's name was
John Franklin Wrenn (1798-1869), who moved to Wrens, Georgia. In William Warren
Wrenn's will: "Third. I give and devise to my daughter, Gladys Wrenn
Phelpsfor the term of her life and then to her children the tract of land
situated in the Bushy Fork Township, known as the Joe Hester place; and in case
this land is sold then she is to have an amount equal to the sum of which said
land was sold, and in addition to this land or the proceeds therefrom, she is
to have whatever amount she may be due me at the time of my death".

Mrs. Ruth Phelps Monk, 80, of Route # 5 Mebane, died suddenly Thursday at her
home. A native of Person County, she was the wife of the late Andrew Jackson
Monk, and the daughter of the late Wyatt Edward. and Molly Fitzgerald Phelps.
She was affiliated with Wheelers Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors include
three daughters, Margo Lynch of Winston-Salem. Mrs John Brietmeier of Mebane
and Mrs. Phyliss Watson of Burlington: two sons, M. Lloyd Monk of Salisbury and

Obituary:
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p. m. today (Thursday) for Wyatt
Emerson Phelps, 55, at the First Baptist Church in Yanceyville, and burial will
follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Phelps died at his home here at 2 p. m.
Wednesday after being in failing health for two years and critically ill for
the past several days. He was a member of Prospect Hill Primitive Baptist
Church and had been employed by the State Highway Department for a period of 25
years. He was the son of the late Wyatt and Mollie Phelps. Surviving are his
wife, Mrs. Ray Ivey Phelps; one son, William Emerson Phelps, of the Army,
stationed at Fort Jackson, S C; two sisters, Mrs. Jack Monk of Mebane, Route 3,
and Mrs. Maynard Parker of Cedar Grove; two brothers, Guy Phelps of Burlington
and Johnny Phelps of Cedar Grove. It was the wish of the deceased that friends,
in lieu of flowers, make a contribution to charity, preferably the cancer fund,
or a favorite fund.

Mrs. Kathleen Phelps Parker, 71, of Route 5 Mebane, died last Thursday at her
home after a sudden illness. A native of Person County, she was the daughter of
the late Wyatt and Mollie Fitzgerald Phelps and the wife of the late Maynard
Parker. She was retired from the University Methodist Day Care Center.
Survivors include one son, Connelly P. Parker of Eden, N C; two daughters,
Jeanette P. Squires of Maryland and Kathy P. Oakley of Route 5, Mebane; six
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Saturday
at MT. Zion Christan Church, where she a member, by the Rev. Don Williams,
pastor. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Fitzgerald and my Aunt Phronia Phelps, my mother's sister. Mildred's mother
died when she was 7 years old. The Phelps homeplace was across the road and a
short walking distance where she sought comfort and received help and guidance
over a period of time from my grandmother and Aunt Phronia.

Hills borough - Mr Henry Wyatt Phelps, 80, of 8800 Art Road, Cedar Grove died
Tuesday, April 08, 1997 in Duke University Medical Center. A native of Orange
County, he was a retired tobacco farmer and a Orange County magistrate for 25
years. He was a member of the Ruritan Club of Cedar Grove, a World War II
veteran and a member of the Prospect Hill American Legion. Survivors include
his wife, Mrs. Ruth Browning Phelps of the home; three daughters, Ms. Mary
Ellen Phelps Cutler of Greensboro, Ms. Pamela Phelps Smith and Ms. Lou Anne
Phelps, both of Cedar Grove; one son, Ronald Wyatt Phelps of Chesterfield, Va.;
one sister, Ms. Rachel P. Wade of Mebane; one brother, Mr. Wilford L. Phelps of
Cedar Grove and two grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 3 p. m.
Friday in Eno Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Robert Brizendine. Burial will

for Claude James Phelps, Sr.:
Claude
and Clyde Phelps were twins. In August 2001 Claude reminded me that my father,
Lewis Elmo Phelps and his brother, Guy Wilford Phelps spent several nights with
his family at their home in Orange County during their courtships with my
mother, Catherine and Phronia Walker. Claude's family lived near the Walker Family.
Sometimes Guy would sneak into their home at night unknown until he came down
for breakfast. After Guy's marriage to Phronia and while he was selling
Raleigh-Watkins products he stopped by for lunch one day and laid down under a
tree to take a nap and he paid Claude and Clyde money to shoo-off files while
he took a nap. Claude also reported that Elmo loaned money enabling Clyde to
attend college. I remember fondly the visits with my family to Claude and
Clyde's home after visiting my mother's parents.
