William F. Fitzgerald—3rd great-grandfather--Private—2nd Regiment Co.E “The Guilford Guards”---Born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, and resided as a farmer in Guilford County where he enlisted at age 34, August 27, 1861 for the war. Killed at Malvern Hill, Virginia, July 1, 1862

 

Willis N. Harder—3rd great-grandfather---Private—47th Regiment Co.K  “The Alamance Minute Men”--- Born in Alamance County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Alamance County at age 23, February 28, 1862. Reported absent on detached service at Goldsboro in January-February , 1864. Died in hospital in Richmond, Virginia, April 26, 1864, of  “pneumonia”

 

Austin W. Harder—3rd great-granduncle—Private---57th Regiment Co. I —Resided in Alamance County and was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Alamance County at age 32, July 4, 1862, for the war. Mustered in as Private. Promoted to Corporal prior to September 1, 1862. Hospitalized at Richmond, Virginia, October 31, 1862, with typhoid fever. Transferred to hospital at Farmville, Virginia, December 20, 1862. Reduced to ranks on January 1, 1863. Returned to duty on January 29, 1863. Captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 2-5 , 1863. Confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware, on or about July 10, 1863. Transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, October 20, 1863. Died at Point Lookout on December 22, 1863, of disease.

 

James M. Harder---3rd great-granduncle---Private—57th Regiment Co. I ---Resided in Alamance County where he enlisted at age 20, July 4, 1862, for the war. Reported present December 31, 1862. Died at Port Royal, Virginia, on or about February 5, 1863, of  “asthma”

 

Joseph R. Harder---3rd great-granduncle---Private---57th Regiment Co. I---Resided in Alamance County where enlisted at age 18, July 4, 1862, for the war. Reported present through December 31, 1862. Died at Port Royal, Virginia, on or about February 5, 1863, of  “pneumonia”

 

Paton L. Lunsford---2nd great-grandfather---Private— 6th Regiment Co.H “The Caswell Boys”--- Born In Caswell County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Caswell County at age 38, June 16, 1861, for the war. Discharged July 19, 1862, by reason of  “general disability”

 

Joseph R. Lunsford---2nd great-granduncle---Private---6th Regiment Co. H “The Caswell Boys”---Born in Caswell County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Caswell County at age 41, June 28, 1861, for the war. Discharged at camp near Richmond, Virginia, July 20, 1862, by reason of  “general physical anemia”

 

Henry Green Phelps---great-granduncle---Private— 40th Regiment 2nd Company G—(3rd Regiment N. C. Artillery)---Resided as a farmer in Orange County where he enlisted at age 21, March 11, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until transferred to Company E, 13th Battalion N.C. Light Artillery November 4, 1863. Present and accounted for through February 1865. Paroled at Greensboro April 27, 1865.

 

Malgum E. Phelps---1st cousin 3 times removed--- Private—40th Regiment 2nd Company G---(3rd Regiment N.C. Artillery)---Resided as a farmer in Orange County where he enlisted at age 18, March 11, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until transferred to Company E, 13th Battalion N.C. Light Artillery November 4, 1863.

 

Robert Young Walker---2nd great-grandfather---Private---19th Regiment Co. K---(2nd Regiment N.C. Cavalry)—Resided in Orange County where he enlisted September 10, 1861 for the war. Wounded and captured at Hanover, Pennsylvania, June 30, 1863 and paroled at Baltimore, Maryland, August 23, 1863. Exact date of exchange not recorded, but he appears as present and accounted for through September, 1864.

 

William S. Walker---2nd great-granduncle---Sergeant—19th Regiment Co. K---(2nd Regiment N.C. Cavalry)---resided in Orange County where he enlisted at age 21, September 10, 1861 for the war. Mustered in as Sergeant. Died at Edenton, North Carolina, November 26, 1861 of disease.  

 

George Washington Walker Jr.---2nd great-granduncle---Private—19th Regiment Co. K---(2nd Regiment N.C. Cavalry)---Resided in Orange County where he enlisted November 1, 1862 for the war. Present or accounted for through September 1864

 

Levi S. Walker---1st cousin 4 times removed---Private—19th Regiment Co. K---(2nd Regiment N.C. Cavalry)---Resided in Orange Counted where he enlisted September 16, 1861 for the war. Captured in North Carolina September 6, 1862 and paroled and exchanged at Aiken’s Landing, Virginia, October 6, 1862. Present or accounted for through September 1864.

 

Robert Samuel Walker---1st cousin 4 times removed---Private—19th Regiment Co. K---(2nd Regiment N.C. Cavalry)---Resided in Orange County where he enlisted September 19, 1861 for the war. Captured in North Carolina July 26, 1862 and exchanged at Aiken’s Landing, Virginia, October 6, 1862. Wounded and captured at Hanover, Pennsylvania, June 30-July 1,1863 and returned to company July-August 1863 as he appears as absent detailed to buy a horse on the muster roll for that period. Admitted to hospital at Richmond, Virginia, May 22, 1864 with a gunshot wound. Present or accounted for through September 1864.
