The Badshers were originally from the British Isles. In the late 17th century many British subjects went to Holland and Germany because of supersession of their religious beliefs. Early in the 18th century there was a mass migration to America. Included in this exouds were our ancestors. They first settled in Pennsylvania, in the counties of York , Lancestor , Evns , and others. From Pennsylvania they settled in Virgina on the James River and then on to North Carolina. The first Bradsher on record in what is now Person County , so far as has been found , was James Oliver bradsher , Sr. who was given a land grant on both sides of Hico in 1760. He had three sons J Moses , John , and ames. The Bradshers were origionaly from the British Isles. Included in this exdous were our ancestors. FROM THE COLONIAL ERA : From the year 1750 to the year 1800 there was a mass migration Southward. They traversed what was known as "The Great Piliadelpha Wagon Road." These settelers were often attacked. The French-Indain War was raging at that time and often was hotly constested in America's fight for liberty a few years later. Carl Bredenbaugh . historian , states "In the last sixteen years of "The Colonial Era" , southbound travel on the Philadelphia Wagon Road was numbered in the tens of thousdands. It was the most heavily traveled road in all of Amereica and had more wagons and other type of vehicles , peculiar to that era , jolting along its rough and tortuous way than all other roads of that time put together. From the James River in Virguinia , the road cut diagonally acroos the state of North Carolina. As the settlers pushed on to the South , entered the state as what as now Eden , North Carolina (formerly Leaksville). Said road followed the Indain trails , traversed by the Redman for centuries prior to the coming of the white man. Two other trading paths , or trials , merged with the Wagon Road ion Piedmont North Carolina. One was the road which led from the settklement on the James River in Virgina , known as the Bermuda Road , or to some as the Bermuda Hundred Road. This road led to settlements which became Henderson , Oxford , Roxboro , Hillsborough , Etc. The other road known as the Green Road , led to to the Eastern section of North Carolina and settlements later known as Weldon , Fayetteville , Rocky Mount , Etc.
