On my mother's side, I am descended from Jesse James Gooch (b. 1874. d. 1935),who lived in Mills County and Brown County, Texas from about 1910 until his death in 1935. I believe he is linked to the early Gooch lines in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Mississippi, but I have not been able to prove that connection yet. I am especially interested in unraveling the mystery of his early life and identifying his parents and siblings. On my father's side, I am descended from Calvin PHILLIPS who was born about 1820 in NC or SC, and lived in northwest Arkansas and central Texas. Some of the allied family surnames include CALLAHAN, NAIL, and OLIVER. We recently learned that we are descended from frontier Texas Ranger Captain James Hughes Callahan (b.1814, d.1856). I find the history of these families to be fascinating. I have gathered a great deal of information about the families mentioned since I started my research in 1995. I am always looking for new information. I will share the information I have with others. Please send e-mail.
Thanks and good luck.
