This information represents many hours spent researching the PHILLIPS Family of Washington County, PA, Coshocton and Licking Counties, Ohio, Wisconsin, New Jersey, etc. Related names include LYON (Phila., PA and Scotland), WILLIAMS (Delaware County, PA), WALKER/BYRNE (Ireland), COLVILLE (Virginia and Ohio), CUMMING (Scotland). All inquiries welcome!

My LYON family history begins in Banffshire, Scotland, an area of Northeast Scotland along the North Sea, with George Lyon who married Margaret Jamieson in 1792. I have information on their descendants, some of whom remained in Scotland, some who migrated to Canada, to County Antrim, Northern Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and one descendant in particular, my grandfather, George Cumming Lyon, who came to the USA in 1887. Some of the related surnames in the LYON history are CUMMING (some of whom migrated to South Africa) and FINDLATER (mostly Scotland).

The PHILLIPS family has proven to be the easiest and most interesting family to study. This history begins with Thomas Phillips who lived in Washington County, PA, at the time of the American Revolution. One of Thomas' sons, Jacob Phillips, relocated to Coshocton and Licking Counties, Ohio. Subsequently, some of Jacob's children moved further west to Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, etc. A related surname in this history is COLVILLE, which family probably originated in Scotland, then Northern Ireland, then Virginia and Ohio, etc.
.................................................................
The family name STUMM (VON STUMM) is included in my PHILLIPS history. The Stumm's originated in Germany. Rudolph Stumm (1879-1941) migrated to Phila., PA in 1892. He lived in Camden, NJ and married Augusta TOEBELMANN (1879-1949). Augusta was also born in Germany. Rudolph and Augusta were the parents of Elsa Stumm (1906-1975) who married into the Phillips Family.
.................................................................
The WALKER family is far from complete. This family originated in County Laois, Ireland and migrated to Phila., PA in the mid 1800's. Margaret Walker was my grandmother and I have some information on her siblings and her descendants. A related surname is BYRNE, also from County Laois, Ireland.
.................................................................
My WILLIAMS history is very brief. It has been the hardest to trace, even though this line is my mother's. The Williams family dealt with in my history lived in Delaware County, PA. A related surname if TOWNSEND, and I have next to nothing on this name.
