Mrs. Launa Lee Phillips, 70, wife of William A. Phillips, died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at her home, 357 Chautauqua Ave.
      She was a native of Nansemond County and had resided here for 11 years. She was the daughter of the late David and Corine Odom Milteer. She was a member of Port Norfolk Baptist Church.
      She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Carrie Lee Hopewell, and Miss Nellie B. Phillips, both of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Ethel O. Lewin of Suffolk; four sons, Vernon B. and Lester. Phillips, both of Portsmouth; Alton R. Phillips of South Norfolk; and Sgt. First Class Henry A. Phillips of Sacramento, Calif.; four grandchildren
      Funeral services will be conducted at Snellings Funeral home at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.

William Alston Phillips, 72, of 357 Chautauqua Ave., died yesterday at 4 p.m. at 401 Fourth St. where he owned and operated a grocery store.
      A native of Bear Creek, N.C., he was formerly of Suffolk and had lived in Portsmouth 12 years. He was the foster son of Elijah and Mrs. Lucinda Brenda Brewer and husband of the late Mrs. Launa Lee Phillips. He was a member of Port Norfolk Baptist Church.
      Surviving are four sons, Vernon B. and Lester N. Phillips, both of Portsmouth, Alton R. Phillips, of South Norfolk, and SFC Henry A. Phillips, USAF, of Colorado Springs, Col.; Three daughters, Mrs. Carrie Lee Hopewell and Mrs. Jerry McManus, both of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Ethel O. Lewin, of Suffolk; and four grandchildren.
      The body was taken to Snellings Funeral Home, where funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.
