He married Mary Gertrude Verner Bet. 05 - 09 April 1769 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. She died in Friedensburg, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

Biographical data : Adam Umberger Married in Cumberland County, PA, and settled in Path Valley, Franklin County, PA. He was preparing to build a mill when he died (ca 1778-1780). His wife and children then returned to Lingleston, Dauphin County, PA. Adam's widow later married Michael Umberger (brother to Adam) and moved to Cumberland County, near Lisburn, PA. Michael Umberger moved to Somerset County sometime after the 1800 U.S. Census. He appears in the 1810 U.S. Census of Somerset County, PA.

He married (2) Catherine Neff Bef. 1805 in Virginia, daughter of Michael Neff and Christina Kappe. She was born 09 September 1776 in Wythe County, Virginia, and died 09 October 1847 in Wythe County, Virginia.

"Henry Umberger migrated to Wythe County area between 1782 and 1788. Sold land in Cumberland County, PA in 1788. He received a grant for land in Wythe County, VA area in 1788 ,lived on same land until his death in 1837. There is a tradition here that this Henry and a Philip and John were brothers, coming to VA at about the same time.
Sometime before 1800, this Henry married 2nd wife, Catherine Neff, a sister of Elizabeth and Mary, who later married his sons, Leonard and Henry.
A large German bible, preserved in the family, has an inscription on the first page stating that it was purchased by Margaret Baurin with her own money --- 1755."
