From records of the Dutch Reformed Church, it is believed that this family went from England to Holland in 1628, probably due to religious persecution. Their son Jans William Workman born Abt. 1598 in England and died Bef. 1647 in Amsterdam, Holland. He married Harmtje Hannah Abt. 1628 in Amsterdam, Holland. His son Jans Woerkman, born Abt. 1630, Amsterdam, Holland. Dirck came to America in 1647. He assumed the surname Woerkman after migrating. This family was admitted to the Dutch Reform Church in Brooklyn, New York on April 10, 1660.
