| The Picklesimers of eastern Kentucky settled in Floyd County, Kentucky, (now Johnson County) in the early 1800's. The first to settle there was Abraham Adam Picklesimer, his wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Prater, and four of their seven children. (The last three being born after they moved to Kentucky.) Abraham and Betsy were married in Virginia and their first two children were born there. They moved from Botetourt County, Virginia to Gallia County, Ohio, living there for about seven years. They then moved onto eastern Kentucky with their four children. A few years later Abraham's brother, David, moved from northern Kentucky to eastern Kentucky. He married Sarah Prater, Daughter of Archibald and Sarah (Fugate) Prater. All of the Picklesimers of eastern Kentucky are descendants of these two family members. As the family married into other families in eastern Kentucky we have added the following surnames. Those listed appear in the genealogy of the Picklesimer family at least 50 times or more. The most frequent down to the less frequent. Williams, Trimble, Caudill, Salyer, Blair, Kimbler, Bayes, McKenzie, Long, Conley, Tackett, Lemaster, Reed, Stapleton, Damron, Miller, Preston, VanHoose, Blanton, Lucas, Brown, Stambaugh, Webb, Castle, Johnson, Davis, Colvin, Rice, Baldwin, Coldiron and Fannin. There is a total of 2,671 surnames that are included in the genealogy of the Picklesimers.
