John & Alice Hilton: English & American Descendants
In England in the middle to late 1700s, John and Alice Hilton bore two sons. William (baptized in 1779) married Betty Jones (baptized in 1781) in Prestwich in 1803. Of their five children, their son George Hilton (1812-1900) married Lydia Hamilton (1815-1901); they in turn had four children. George and Lydia's son Jesse Hilton (1841-1918) married Sarah Wilde (1841-1913). They and their descendants appear to have lived largely in England. Among them is J.M., one of three cousins who accidentally found one another while tracing John and Alice's English and American descendants. George and Lydia's son David Hilton (1846-1924) migrated to America, where he married Isabella Chapman (1853-1933) in 1875. They and their family settled primarily in Weissert County, Nebraska. Among their many descendants are S.K. and P.P., the two American cousins, who have joined J.M., their newly found British cousin, all three counting John and Alice Hilton among their earliest family. J.M., however, has also found in England that William Hilton's wife, Betty Jones, was the daughter of Ralph Jones (born c. 1748) and Mary and that Ralph, in turn, was the son of James Jones (born c. 1720) and Elizabeth Kay (born c. 1724), were married in 1745.
