6. HON. ENOCH CALVIN3 JONES (MARTIN WILLIAM " GOBBLER "2, MR.1) was born 30 Jan 1816 in Jefferson Co., Tennessee, and died 11 Jun 1886 in Hot Springs, Garland Co., Arkansas. He married (1) ELIZABETH Bet. 1836 - 1838 in White or Pulaski Co., Arkansas. She was born Abt. 1818 in Tennessee, and died Abt. 1851 in Angelina Co., Texas. He married (2) MARTHA ANN WALKER Abt. 1852 in Texas, daughter of JAMES WALKER. She was born 16 Mar 1823 in Florence, Lauderdale Co., Alabama, and died 05 Jun 1884 in Troup, Smith Co., Texas.

ON. ENOCH CALVIN JONES:
Enochs' Brand was "EJ". He and Elizabeth were in Polk Co., Texas in 1846, where he and his brothers and cousins, John Hodges Jones, Martin William Jr. Jones, Clisby Riggs Jones, Jesse Riggs Jones, and other relatives established Jones Prairie which was about a mile east of present day Leggett. Enoch and Elizabeth then moved to Jonesville in Angelina Co.,Texas about 1851 and this is where Elizabeth died. Soon afterwards, he met and married his second wife Mrs. Martha Ann Walker Armes. Enoch volunteered for service in CSA and served with Co. B, 1st. Texas Infantry, which was formed in Livingston, Polk Co., Texas under Lt. C.W. Phifer. After the war, Enoch moved to Troup, Texas where he became a Merchant and Stockman. Later, he moved to Maybank and continued in his same business. He also helped build the Railroad in East Texas.

Memorial Stone:
"Willis Lemuel BUGG, I, was born in 1817 in Richmond Co. Georgia, the son of Nancy and William Bugg, a prominent planter. The family migrated to Noxubee Co. Miss. about 1832. Willis married Caroline Jane EIDOM, daughter of John and Carolyn Eidom, in that county February 11, 1836. The Eidom and Bugg families owned large cotton plantations in both Noxubee and Carroll County, In the early 185O's both families migrated to Knoxville, Cherokee County, Texas. Both Bugg and Eldom were instrumental in the development of Old Knoxville. A large plantation owner, Bugg operated one of the first cotton gins and jointly owned the Bugg and Eidom mercantile store. In the early 1870's Bugg and Eidom joined Judge We W. MORRIS, Judge S. D. MORRIS, Hon. Enoch C. JONES and Dr. E. H. HANNA in promoting the International and Great Northern RR through East Texas. In 1871 Bugg and Eidom gave a parcel of land and money for the establishment of a free public school on the W. T. Smith Headright on Caney Creek, near Troup. In the 1880's Bugg died in Troup, and was interred in Mixon Cemetery beside his wife.

On the 1870 Cherokee Co., Texas Census Enoch is residing with Martha and their children. His former children were no longer in the home. He is listed as a Miller.

ARTIN WILLIAM JR. JONES:
Martin Jr. and Sarahs' graves have been lost, but it is assumed they were buried in the families Cemetery. After Martin Jr.s death and on the 1870 Census, William M., Marie E., Mary M., Rhoda, Eliza, Richard, Lucy, and Caldonia were living with Sarah Jane " Sally " Jones. Martin William Jr. had two land surveys in Jonesville. One was between Jonesville and the Salem Community. The other was southwest of Jonesville, which is now known as the old Porter Place. He also volunteered for service in the CSA and served with the 22nd Texas Infantry, Company G, registering at Homer, Angelina Co., Texas. Our Annie Lee is a descendent of Martin Jr.

  Notes for WILLIAM M. JONES:
William was also called Bill and would sometimes sign his name as Jr. He was the first City Marshall of Lufkin, Texas. He hired Enoch T. Jones to dig the Jones Lake to furnish water for the city. At that time, Bill lived on the corner of Lufkin Ave. and Jones St. which was named after him. He owned a large white house there.
He grew up in Polk and Angelina Co., Texas. Later he lived in Trinity Co., Texas. he served with Co.D, 22nd Texas Infantry for awhile, then was transferred to Walker's Division from Co. E, Bordon's Battery. He may have died in Trinity County where he was living in 1906 when he received a pension.
