He married (1) UNKNOWN Bef. 1880. She died Unknown. He married (2) MARY ELIZABETH AGNES WATKINS 01 Jan 1880 in Breckenridge, Stephens Co., Texas, daughter of MR. WATKINS and UNKNOWN INDIAN. She was born Nov 1861 in Texas, and died 1918 in Ringling, Jefferson Co., Oklahoma.

Notes for CLISBY RIGGS JONES:
Clisby and Mary are buried together. The children I have listed for Clisby and Mary are all we know of but there could be older children or children from a previous marriage of Clisbys'? It is believed that there is a family connection but we don't know at this time how they are related, to Dr. Clisby Riggs and his father Samuel Riggs who are listed on the 1880 census. It was Dr. Clisby Riggs' son Clisby Riggs Jr. that ran a Still in Morris Town and Davy Crocketts' father ran the local saloon which sold Clisbys' liquer. Clisby Jones was living with Edward and Hester Baker on Odell Creek in Angelina Co., Texas in 1860. He also lived in Johnson and Hood Co. for several years. Circa 1895, he moved to Ardmore, Chickasaw Nation in Pickens-Carter Co., Indian Territory, Oklahoma. Lizzie may have been a second or a third wife of Clisbys' we don't know as of yet. There is also information stating that Clisbys' name is either Clarence Clisby Jones, or Clisby Riggs Jones. He was called Tibb 2, after his uncle. Clisby had lived in several Counties of Texas. We find him in Angelina, Cherokee, Hamilton, Hood, Erath, Jack, Johnson, and Denton Counties of Texas before living in Jefferson County, Oklahoma.
I have been told by a member of the family, that Clisby had ran off and left his previous wife and family to be with Lizzie, and he would go out only at night. They had left Texas for Oklahoma after Clisby's death and Lizzie remarried Mr. L.F. Price, Lizzie's boys did not care for him so they ran the poor fellow off!
Clisby may have been born in Magnolia, LaFayette Co., Arkansas. He is residing at the age of one year with his parents in Lafayette Co., Arkansas.

C. R. JONES married MARY DOZIER on 19 May 1878 Erath, Texas.
I find Clisby Jones, Lizzie and their eight children on the 1900 Healdton Township, Pickens Co., Chickasaw Nation, Oklahoma Census in dwelling 126, family 127. It also states they had 8 children born and 8 living. This proves there was not a child named Clarence Clisby as other researchers had stated in the past and I have now removed him from the family. The Census also states they have been married 20 yrs. which would make it 1880. The family is listed as Clisby, Lizzie, Jasper, Jesse, Bevley, Porter, Eula, Mamie, Clisby and Florence. Clisby could read but could not write and Lizzie could read and write. Bevley and Porter could both read but they couldn't write. Clisby is listed as a Farmer renting the land he is on. It states that Lizzie's parents were both from Alabama and states Clisbys as being born in Arkansas which is not correct.

Family Lore has it that Clisby was married before he married Lizzie. In fact he may have had a couple of wives before Lizzie. This may have been why Clisby would only go out in the evenings. He may have not wanted to be seen due to the fact that he may have had an ex spouse looking for him?

Notes for MARY ELIZABETH AGNES WATKINS:
Marys' nickname was Lizzie and she might have been Clisbys' second wife. Clisby supposedly had left his first spouse for Lizzie.
Cherokee name for Mary I believe is Me-li-lay-lee and for Lizzie would be Li-sa-i-lee-sae.
We are still trying to find more information on her family. Her father was killed in the Civil War. Lizzies' mother was killed by Yankee Soldiers, Carpetbaggers or Bushwackers, because they thought she was hiding a Confederate Soldier, but she was only hiding her children Lizzie, John, and Walley. Lizzies mother was holding another child in her arms, as Lizzie and her brothers watched, as they killed their sibling too. Lizzie and her brothers were then placed in a Texas Orphanage who's records were lost when the orphanage burned to the ground years later. John and Walley later lived in Idabel, McCurtain Co., OK. Lizzies' mother was suppose to be full blood Cherokee. Lizzie was a Cherokee mid-wife. M.A. Jones (Lizzie) remarried after Clisby to a L.F. Price on Apr. 26, 1913 in Cornish, at the age of 51. Witness for this marriage was Addie Harris. Lizzies boys did not like L.F., so they ran him off. Lizzie also use to camp out in the summer months at Turner Falls in Davis, OK. ca. 1897. Betty Lyle our dear and wonderful relative, lives in Healdton, OK. If it weren't for Betty, Annie, Ina, Zorn, and others we might have lost our Lineage to hand down to our families. I have ran across misprints of Marys' name being Mary Elizabeth Watkins. It would stand to reason, but relatives claim that Lizzie was just her nickname for no rhymn nor reason. Relatives have claimed her name to be Mary Agnes, which later she would name her daughter Florence Agnes. A relative has also stated that she may have been from the Kushabi Indian Tribe of Polk Co., Texas? Could she have been Alabama-Coushatta? They are in the area of San Jacinto Co., Texas, near Livingston and Woodville, Texas and Lizzie's parents were from Alabama. Lizzie and her girls all wore turbins on their heads as it was a Cherokee tradition of the family.
Clisby, Lizzie and their son Porter are buried side by side in the Cornish Cemetery. Lizzie has no headstone and Clisby's headstone has come up out of the ground.
There is or was a Bud Watkins who ran a grocery store in Ardmore, OK. and was likely to be kin to Lizzie.
Lizzie is on the 1900 and the 1910 Jefferson Co., and Pickens Co., Chickasaw Nation Census.
My dear sweet kin Betty said that they had found info. on some papers filled out by one of her girls to marry at a young age, (this may have been the youngest daughter Florence since she was 17 when she married Bertis Thatcher) stated that her mothers name was "Mrs. Lizzie Priest," There are records of her name as being Mrs. M.E. Jones and Mrs. M.A. Jones.
Lizzie told Pete her son-in-law that she was going to die and wanted James Lucian (Pete) King to lay her out with the clothes she had chosen to be buried, she told the family that she was going to die and the family of course did not believe her. In the following week, Lizzie had past on..
As with Indian ways, it is thought that they know when it is their time to die, and this may have been instinct on Lizzie's part.

(Stephens County was created as Buchanan County in 1858 from Bosque County. It was renamed in 1861 for Confederate Vice-President Alexander H. Stephens.)

There is also Bayland Orphan Home in Stephens Co., Texas. Could this be the home that Lizzie was placed in as a child?

"BAYLAND ORPHANS' HOME FOR BOYS. Bayland Orphans' Home for Boys, a county home for dependent and delinquent boys, was chartered as the Confederate Orphans' Home on September 24, 1866, and organized in Houston on January 15, 1867, by Texas Confederate veterans. The institution was first located at Bayland on the west side of Galveston Bay near Morgan's Point, at a place that later became part of the Goose Creek oilfield. The nonsectarian home, planned to care for and educate up to 250 orphans of deceased Confederate soldiers, opened on August 13, 1867. Henry F. Gillette was superintendent from 1867 to 1882, and Col. Ashbel Smith served as staff doctor. Private support for the home came primarily from Galveston and Houston. In the 1870s the home received a share of state public lands, including acreage in Shackelford, Stevens, and Callahan counties. Agents for the institution were kept in the field to gather and accept donations of all kinds, and a small community church at Harmony Grove was moved to the site for use as a school. By 1878 the home owned a 328-acre farm and several buildings and had cash reserves.

In 1887, when Houston-Galveston packet travel ceased and Bayland became inaccessible, a decision was made to move the home to Houston. A charter amendment made on January 29, 1888, designated the new institution Bayland Orphans' Home Association and provided that it could accept any white orphan child from any county in the state. Mrs. Kezia Payne DePelchin, later connected with the DePelchin Faith Home, was elected matron of the new home on June 4, 1888. Around 1900 the home was moved from its original location on Galveston Bay to a thirty-six-acre tract in the Woodland Heights area three miles from Houston, with space for forty-two children.

Financial difficulties developed in the 1890s. A fire in 1914 destroyed the Bayland Avenue home, and the institution moved again in 1916 to a new tract ten miles south of Houston, near Bellaire, on land donated by Joseph F. Meyer. At this time a decision was reached to accept only boys, and the home was renamed Bayland Orphans' Home for Boys. In 1922 the institution was taken over by the county, which also agreed to erect a new building at Bellaire, to be known as Harris County Bayland Home, for dependent white female juveniles.

In 1936 the school and home were consolidated with the Harris County School for Boys and moved to a 115-acre tract in southeastern Harris County, four miles east of Webster. The institution became partially self-supporting from the diversified agriculture of its own plant. In 1946 the average age of the sixty-six boys at the home was thirteen. After this time the institution ceased to function strictly as the Bayland Orphans' Home. Boys attended public school at Webster, and efforts were made to place children in foster homes. On September 20, 1964, the Harris County Historical Survey Committee unveiled a bronze marker at the original site of the home.

Monroe A. Ashworth III states the following:
"Bayland Orphan's Home for Boys was chartered in Texas on 24 Sep 1866. It was located on Galveston Bay until 1900. Galveston Bay is bordered by both Galveston and Harris counties. Supposedly, the home originally accepted only the sons of deceased Confederate soldiers. If your gg-grandparents died in the 1850s or early 1860s in a ship wreck, it's unlikely your g-grandfather and his brother qualified for acceptance into Bayland. In 1888 the home's charter was amended to also accept girls and about 1900 the home was moved from Galveston Bay to near downtown Houston. The Texas Room at the Houston Public Library's downtown branch has some of Bayland's records.

A more likely possibility may have been St. Mary's Orphanage in Galveston, TX. It opened in 1867 and was operated by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word as an extension of St. Mary's Hospital (where orphans originally lived and received care). The Genealogy Dept. of Rosenberg Library in Galveston might be of some help."

Jasper F. was never married. He had lost an eye to Cancer and continued to have on-going problems with the Cancer for 10-15 years. He eventually died of Cancer of the face, nose, and eye area after being placed in the Sloans Rest Home on 3rd Ave N.E. in Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma at the age of 75. He is listed as a farmer on his death certificate. Clarence Jones of Brock, (Carter Co.) Okla. signed as the informant on the death certificate. It lists his parents as Clisby Jones and Elizabeth Watkins.
I believe that Jasper is residing in the home of Joe & Bertha West on the 1920 Hewitt Twnshp. of Carter Co., Oklahoma Census. He is listed as the Head Mac, Farm Laborer, age 37, single, born in Tx., Father in Ark. and Mother in Texas.
Note; Listed as Jasper F. Jones in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
1920 Jasper is residing in Hewitt, Carter Co., Oklahoma as a hired farm hand age 37 for the Joe and Bertha West family.
