Notes for F
LORENCE AGNES THATCHER:
Agnes' nickname was Cokie. In her obituary they had stated her to be born on October 5, 1904. Her obituary also states that she had 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Agnes also raised Danny McKay. Agnes' sons Jessie and Tommy are twins. I remember my Aunt Agnes. She was a tall woman that I recall, but I was a little girl last time I had seen her with her silver grey hair. She was the only woman I knew that chewed "Tobaccy" as my family had called it. She always had a Folgers coffee can near by ! She was dear to the family and always kept close track of them. Arie Lee was very close to his sister-in-law Agnes even after the death of Aries' wife Hazel, who was Agnes' sister. Agnes' boys Tommy and Jesse were cousins to Jerry and Berry and the boys were around the same ages and were into mischief togather as young teens. Agnes knew how to make a great pot of Southern Beans and Cornbread. There just wasn't much money, but there was always plenty to eat at Aunt Agnes' house.
I remember as a child, Arie " Pappy " had to have surgery on his leg, but refused to go back to the doctor. Gangrene had set in with a vengence! Pappy was in severe pain and needed medical attention. Aunt Agnes nursed him in her home. I remember spying around the corner as a child and watching as Aunt Agnes had to douse his leg in a mixture of rubbing alcohol as he would scream in pain, then she would have to put iodine on, and place a dressing over this. They would scat me out, because of the trauma of watching my Pappy in pain.
Agnes' Obit:

Mrs. Copeland was born October 5, 1904, in Ringling and died Tuesday, Jun 21, 1994, in a Wichita Falls, Texas hospital. She had lived in Burkburnett since 1983, and was a former Wichita Falls resident. She was a Protestant and a retired homemaker. Her husband William Hardy Copeland, died in 1956.
Survivors include two sons, Jessie of Ringling, and Tommy of Ardmore, two daughters, Brenda Raleigh of Burkburnett and Clara Dell Perkins of Ringling, a sister, Lois Burleson of Ringling, a brother, Loyd Thatcher of Ringling, 17 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren."

Notes for H
AZEL LEVATA THATCHER:
Grandma Hazel worked at a chicken farm at one time. Her job was skinning chickens! She had a great sense of humor and I believe she passed it down in her children.
I remember my grandma Hazel even thou I was only three when she died. I don't recall much, but a little. I remember her being nice with a sweet voice. I also remember Pappy and Hazels livingroom having floral wallpaper everywhere. The things you recall as a child uh..
When grandma Hazel died, I remember being outside in the truck with my daddy and Ken who was just a baby. My mother Ruth was upset and I did not know why. She went into grandma's place and would'nt let me out of the truck to go in with her. I was too young to know why, so I sat crying and pouting in the truck with my daddy. Not knowing that my grandmother had just passed on...

RIE LEE BURLESON:
We called him " Pappy ". He loved to fish and he loved to whittle. He worked in the lumberyard business up until he had to have leg surgery which caused him to have a limp the rest of his life. His leg continued to give him problems after a severe infection of gangrene. I remember as a small girl when I had peeked around the corner and watched my Aunt Agnes (Hazel's sister) change Pappy's bandages. She had to pour some kind of disinfectant on the wound which was about 8 inches in diameter. I remember Pappy yelling as the disinfectant came in contact with his leg. It was horrible. In 1997 I carved a likeness of my grandfather as a Cigar Store Indian for a tribute to his native ancestry, which I had given to my brother Ken since Ken loved Pappy and spent many a day fishing with him on the banks of the Red River. I'll never forget my grandfather and his simple way of life. He never remarried after losing his wife Hazel and spent his years with his children and family. He was raised with his brothers by their widowed mother and never knew the bond of a father and son because he had lost his father by the age of 12, but yet he had a very strong bond with his children. He was a good man and tried hard to please others....
Note; Perhaps the first recorded school in Young county was the Indian school located at a place three miles east of Graham on the Indian Reservation. The purpose of the school was for the benefit and education of the Indian children.
My mother had told me that Arie only attended school up to the third grade, by this time of course there were alot more schools in the Graham area.
He worked in the Lumberyards for most of his adult life.

Alexander Funeral Home will direct services."
Note: Berry's Obit had a few minor spelling errors that I have corrected here.
Berry lived most of his life in and around Ringling, Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a twin to his brother Jerry. My mom told me that the boys did not finish grade school.
Note; In Wichita Co., Texas births it states the twins to be born on 21 Feb, but they were born on the 22 Feb. It was a typo.
I remember Berry as a teen and young adult. Berry played the guitar and sang. He and Jerry were always into mischief. Berry I would have to say, was a bit shy but still mischievious.
I also recall an incident where he and Jerry took me to a girlfriends house, who's girlfriend, I can't recall, but it was one of the boys. The girl lived near a huge water tank and also near an oil well, those always frightened me as a child, because they looked like huge moving ants or grasshoppers to my young and imaginative mind! While at this girls home, they played Patsy Cline records over and again. That was the first I had ever heard of Patsy Cline and I loved her sound. Still to this day when I hear Patsy Cline, I think of my uncles and the girl...
