After reading in the April issue that the first prize collar of the State of Kentucky was won in Madison County, I thought I would write you that I have a silver collar with large letters on the outside: "THE CHAMPION COLLAR OF KENTUCKY". On the inside are the words "WON BY LOUD FOXHOUND, MARCH 1867, OWNED BY R.L. BOND." During the Civil War, my father, John C. Bond, Sr. raised two foxhounds named Loud and Grey. When his younger brother, R.L. Bond, returned home from the Fourth Kentucky Calvary, father gave him the two hounds to catch up with his foxhunting. I also have a picture of R.L. Bond holding Loud and Grey with two other gyps, taken in the Sharon Baptist Church yard in 1867. R. Frank Bond, son of R.L. Bond, inherited this prize collar, and shortly before his death, sent it to John C. Bond, 'Fox Hunter', for him to enjoy. Since the death of John C. Bond, this collar is in possession of R.L. bond's grandson, Rev. Robert Bond Hays, Jr. of Buford, Ga."
