Descendants of Virginia to Kentucky Pierces Pierce

Generation No. 1

1. VIRGINIA TO KENTUCKY PIERCES1 PIERCE

Notes for VIRGINIA TO KENTUCKY PIERCES PIERCE:
This name is merely an artificial construct to enable various Pierce lines in that lead from VA KY to be printed in one report.

Orange Co., VA Deeds 2, p. 276; 23 Mar 1737 Ambrose Pearce (spelled Pawrii in the index) bought land from Richard Jarborough. There are more deeds spelled like this - check it out (I haven't gotten around to it yet).

1739, "Gerrard" Banks now living in Orange Co., VA received 202 more acres from his father-in-law Thomas Stanton (Orange Co., VA, Deed Book 3, p 353) Dorman (see above) adds that witnesses were G. Hume and Abraham Pearce and land adjoined Goodrich Lightfoot.

Orange Co., VA Will Book 2 1744-1778 pp.120-23: William Stanton, Guardian's account. From August court 1746. Payments made to Abraham Pierce (miller), and many others listed.

Culpeper Co., VA Will Book A 1749-1770 pp. 7-9: William Stanton, infant son of Thomas Stanton.
Dr (debit report): 1748 among others Abraham Pierce for Millers Wages. Thomas Hord for Smith's work.
Also known as Ambrose?

He could be the father of Isaac but it is only guesswork because his presumed grandson, Francis, had a child named Ambrose, and Ambrose may be another name for Abraham and it is a very rare given name in Kentucky. It is actually rather common in Orange Co., VA. Ambrose is a last name, so maybe someone early married into the Orange Co. bunch. A Wm Bryan married an Ambrose in Orange Co.

For example, Ambrose Rucker b. 13 April 1735 is the nephew of Elizabeth Rucker who married William Pierce of Orange Co. about that time.

Orange Co., VA Deeds 2, p. 276; 23 Mar 1737 Ambrose (spelled Pawrii) bought land from Richard Jarborough. There are more deeds spelled like this. This may be Ambrose Powell, not Pierce, who is in the list of tithables for 1739 in Orange Co.

4 Oct 1741 Orange Co. Wills: Witnessed the will of Thomas Stanton along with Thomas Stanton Jr. (whose daughter Mary married William Pierce in Orange Co.) and George Hume (who married Jane Stanton, d. of Thos Stanton Sr.).

Orange Co. Will Book 1735-1778. pp. 71-76 Guardian Account for William Stanton:
1742 payments made to Abraham Pierce (for board and miller's wages [William had inherited a will from his father Thomas, where apparently Abraham was a miller. This last association with is with William Stanton, the uncle of Mary Stanton dau. of Thomas Stanton, Jr. and who married William Pierce, which makes the kinship apparently stronger with William than Isaac above])

Appears to be related to William Pierce (shown here as a brother) because of strong Stanton connections.

3. iii.   JEREMIAH PIERCE, b. 1710, Essex Co., VA.
4. iv.   THOMAS PIERCE, b. Abt. 1720.
5. v.   WILLIAM PIERCE, b. 1750, Orange Co., VA; d. Barren Co., KY.
vi.   HUGH PIERCE, b. Bef. 1778.
  Notes for HUGH PIERCE:
Montgomery Co., VA Court (Annals of SW VA) October 5, 1779: Ordered that Hugh Pierce, an orphan of eight years old be bound to Wm. Doak Gentleman until he arrive to the age of 21 years. William is to teach him the sd. orphan read, write and cypher as far as the five common rules, and to learn him the trade of a weaver. Barnabus Pierce of six years old to William Ward Gentleman until he arrive at 21 years and to be taught same as his brother and to be learned the trade or occupation of shoemaker.

Lincoln Co., KY tax records, film 0,008,114: 1797: Pierce, Hugh 10002 no land; no 1798 and no Hugh after 1798.

Pulaski Co., KY tax records, film 0,008,209: 1st year of Pulaski Co, 1799:Pearce, Hugh 11002; 200 ac Pulaski Co., Cumb. R.; 1800: same; nothing after 1800. Next Pierce is Reuben from VA in 1810.

Wayne Co., KY tax records, film 0,008,269: 1st year of Wayne Co, 1801: Pierce, Hugh 200 ac Cumb. R. ent. H. Pierce; 1802: same; 1803 same; 1804 same; 1805: to light to read; 1806: 180 ac Bever Cr. end Les Johnson; 1807 half illegible; 1808+ff: no Hugh Pierce. Next Pierce is Jeremiah S. (William) in 1833.

Hugh apparently did not move around, but rather the counties grew up around him. In 1799 he has a son 16-21, who should be of age in 1804.

This could be the Hugh Pierce son of Roy C. Pierce on Woldconnect whose descendents went to Arkansas and Travis Co., Texas [the only branch with "Hugh" as a given name]. It is not the Hugh from Frederick, VA who was a rev. soldier from SC and eventually lived in AL (this later Hugh is group J in Pierce dna).

6. vii.   JEREMIAH PIERCE, b. Bet. 1780 - 1790, VA; d. Bet. 1830 - 1840, TN.
7. viii.   DAVID PIERCE, b. Abt. 1800.
