I am researching William Pierce of Montgomery and later Wythe Counties of Virginia. The spelling of his last name varies in the records including Pierce, Pearce, Peirce, and Perce. He was born about 1740-45 (est. based on date of birth of first child) likely in Orange County Virginia. He appears in land records of southwest Virginia in the early 1780's. His wife was named Mary Stanton. This site includes information about William found in Virginia. He died in Wythe County about 1804-1805. After his death the family dispersed, some moving to Madison/Garrard/Adair/Russell Counties of Kentucky (William and Ephraim), some moving to Pulaski County Kentucky (Jesse, Reuben, and Francis), and some later moving to Marion County Indiana (Joel and Thomas S.) Any useful information in regard to this family would be appreciated. The site includes some pictures of William Pierce's land in Wythe County and some maps of the area. He lived near present day Loneash, Virginia in the southeast part of the county.

In the genealogy report on this website also is information gathered on William Pierce of Orange County, the father of William Pierce of Culpepper County Virginia and later Wythe County.

Update: "Research Query Pierce" in the genealogy report on this page is William Pierce/Pearce of Orange County, Virginia. He was born in about 1705 and married Elizabeth Rucker, daughter of Peter Rucker about 1725.

Update: Pierces and Stantons:

The name of Stanton is a recurrent name in the descendants of William of Wythe County. A web source listed the mother of Francis Buster Pierce, William's daughter, as "Mary Stanton".
Numerous connections can be found between a Pierce/Pearce family in Orange County, Virginia and the family of Thomas Stanton, Sr.

William Pierce/Pearce of Orange county has several Stanton connections in the records. William Pierce Jr. of Culpeper County, Virginia and later of Wythe County, the son of William Pierce of Orange County, also had a Stanton connection. He married Mary Stanton.

Pierce and Stanton connections in the records can be found in the genealogy report.

Update: This website will not be further updated after Sept. 2014 as Ancestry.com is making this a read only site. Please contact me via email if you have any interest in or questions about these Pierces of Virginia.
