(Formerly Barbara Craddock Pike) I have been researching my family's history since October 1999. A chance occurance of some old photos and obits falling off a shelf at my sister's house, set me off on this wonderful adventure. Before that time, I knew virtually nothing of my ancestors. The main surnames on my father's side are:Craddock, Elmore, Rainbolt, Parker, Hobbs, Wood (Learwood), and Lindsey. The Craddocks started out in England, but I don't have that documentation. My earliest documented Craddock is Edmund Craddock (abt 1751-1791), born in Virginia, & died in South Carolina.I believe he was the son of William Craddock (1714-1796) & his second wife, Hannah Harper. My Craddocks migrated from Virginia, to South Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri, California & Texas. The Elmores also came from England. My earliest Elmore is Thomas Elmore, born about 1642. My Elmores migrated from Virginia to South Carolina then to Alabama. It is believed that our Rainbolt name came from Reinboldt... and from Germany or Holland. My earliest documented Rainbolt is Joseph Rainbolt (1730-1791) who was born in North Carolina and died in Tennessee. The Rainbolts were a very migratory bunch, and also very prolific! My Rainbolts migrated from North Carolina, to Alabama, then to Texas (and probably many states in between!) My earliest Parker is my great great grandfather, Peyton Graves Parker. He was born in 1840, but we don't know where, or who his parents were.On various documents, he indicated he was born in MS, AL and LA.By 1859, he was in Leake Co., MS, where he married, and also joined the CSA. After the war, he and his family moved to Hill Co., TX UPDATE (Sept 2008) We've had a breakthrough on our Parker line! Peyton was the son of Anderson Peyton Parker (1808) who was the son of Benjamin Parker (1771) from North Carolina, and Nancy Anderson (1771). The Hobbs also came from England. My earliest Hobbs is Richard Hobbs, b. abt 1621 in England. These Hobbs stayed in Virginia for several generations, finally moved to Alabama then Mississippi. My Woods started out as Learwood. My earliest Learwood is John Learwood, b. abt 1699 in VA.The Learwoods were in North Carolina, South Carolina (where my branch morphed into L.Wood, then into Wood), then to Mississippi & Texas. My earliest Lindsey is David Lindsey, b. 1750 in PA. He was a Revolutionary War soldier, and the Montevallo AL chapter of the DAR is named after him.My Lindeys were in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississipi & then Texas. The surnames on my mothers side are Baskin, Mann, Yandell, Laster, Williams, Seawell, Mobley & Macon. My earliest Baskin is William Baskin, b. 1705 in Ireland. My Baskins migrated to Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Arkansas. My Baskins married Lasters in Arkansas. They had migrated from North Carolina to Tennessee then Arkansas. They also married Yandells in Arkansas. My earliest Mann is Robert Mann, b. 1662 in Surry, England. My Manns went from Virginia to Tennesse & stayed there.Austin Mann (1858-1899) married Virginia Williams (1860-1899) in Ripley, Lauderdale Co. TN.She was the daughter of Joseph Seawell Williams and Caroline Mobley. Joseph's father was Harry Samuel Williams (b. NC, d. 1837 in TN), married to Martha Macon Seawell. Harry S. Williams was the first settler in the southern section of Lauderdale Co., TN. The Seawells and Williams apparantly came from North Carolina, possibly Cumberland Co. In 2001, I discovered that Martha Macon Seawell was the daughter of Joseph Seawell & Martha Macon; Martha Macon was the daughter of Gideon Hunt Macon, Sr, who was the son of John Macon (b. 1695).John Macon's sister, Martha Macon, married Orlando Jones; their daughter was Frances Jones who married John Dandridge, & their daughter was Martha Dandridge, who first married Daniel Parke Custis, then married George Washington. That makes George & Martha Washington my most famous relatives!
