Smith/Bennett/Caton -Family Research-:Information about Solomon Brundage
Solomon Brundage (b. Abt. 1750, d. 1823)
Notes for Solomon Brundage:
Some reports say Solomon went to Pennsylvania. From there he
evidently migrated down into Virginia and fought in the
Revolutionary War as an Infantry Soldier in Colonel Nathaniel
Grist's Virgina Regiment in 1777. He may have remained in
Virginia until about 1786 as records show he received a
certificate of final pay for military service. On December 22,
1785, he received credit for 56 pounds 8 shillings and 5 pence.
He may have used this money to start a family. In Sept of 1786
he married in KY. He moved deeper into the frontier and was
probably a trapper and woodman in Clark Co, KY.
Note:
Early records for KY are few and far between, most having been
destroyed in the war of 1812 when burned by the British. From
old court records it is known that he was in Madison Co, KY in
1787. The first record of Solomon after his marriage was in
1787 when he appeared in the Madison Co court charged with
non-payment of debts.
Note:
In 1789, Solomon Bumbridge and Bartley Bumbridge were on the
Clark Co KY tax rolls. Although there is no evidence that
Bartlett was a brother to Solomon, he may have been a close
relative. They lived adjacent to each other on the tax rolls.
The 1792 tax roll shows Solomon as the owner of one horse and 3
cows and farmed fifty acres of land. Records are not clear if
he owned or rented this land. the tax rolls show that this
ownership continued for Solomon through 1795 when his herd
increased to 5 cows but the had either sold or lost the horse as
none were listed. From 1800 through 1814 he had obtained the
status of a 2 horse owner but evidently had removed himself fro
the cattle business. The last tax record of Solomon was in
1817, still in Clark Co, when he was down to one horse valued at
$10. Between 1796 and 1817 Bartlett was not in the Clark Co tax
rolls but appeared in Madison Co in 1800. In 1817 he again
appeared in Clark Co along with Solomon.
Note: Solomon was a half-brother to James & Abram Brundage.
