The Pinchers/Pinches families of Chester, Cheshire, UKUpdated December 23, 2006
I commenced researching my family i.e the direct male line of my father's family, approximately three years ago.At present I have found who my 3x Gt grandfather was, and also the name of his wife.I am also 75% certain who his father and mother were, but I cannot for certain substantiate the details which I have against records in my local records office in Chester.I have only one member of my father's family who is still living, she is my fathers youngest sister who is at this time (Dec 2006) 92 years of age.Unfortunately she is unable to remember details of her family which would help me in my research.I am therefore reliant on my own research which is taking rather a long time, even though our family name is not usual in this area. The spelling of our family name has changed during the 19th century. My 3x Gt grandfather spelled his name without the 'R', but his youngest son, my 2xGt grandfather seems to have introduced the'R', unless of course church officials saw fit to spell the name in that fashion. This method of spelling the family name persisted until approximately 1903, when my grandfather started using the form without the'R'.strangely though my father spelled his name Pinchers when he married my mother in 1925.The same name was used on my elder brother's birth certificate, however the rest of my brothers' and my sister all kept the name Pinches as it is spelled to this day.
