I have been researching the Ancestral lines of my mother, Virginia May Sly who started me on this journey just shortly before her death in 1996. I am also currently researching the Ancestral lines of My father, William James McCarthy Sr. I have realized that in researching my family tree it is all about discovering how we came to be. Some of the surnames in my tree are: Belangea, Brewster, Calkins, Crandall, Curtis, Dooley, Foley, Fountain, Hubbard, Lauzon, McCarthy, McGrath, O'Neil, Sly, Tool, Trainor, Whalen, Wixon, Woodruff. Many cousins that I have met along the way have contributed to the information I now have and I am grateful for their help. It would take much more time and resources to travel to the many countries, states and counties to verify all the information on this page so I have in some instances taken the word of the contributors. Virginia May Sly (152 KB) Virginia was born March 10, 1916 in Gould City, MI and Died March 14, 1996 in Cadillac, MI. James Alexander Sly (37 KB) James Alexander was born March 11, 1862 in Sanilac County, MI and died October 23, 1941 in Gould City, MI John Franklin Sly (11 KB) John Franklin Sly was born October 31, 1866 in Pickering, Ontario and died March 17, 1944 in Gould City, MI. William Alvin Belounge (30 KB) William Alvin was born in 1890 at Mackinac Island, MI and died October 8, 1918 in France. William received the Distinguished Service Cross before he died during WWI. His body was not returned for burial although there is a tombstone in Newton Township Cemetary, Gould City, MI. The other soldier is unidentified, but I feel that he is either related or a close friend to William. This picture was taken at Scotts Pte, MI. Mary Toole (34 KB) Mary Toole was born September 17, 1817 in Whitchurch Twp, York Co., Ontario, Canada and died October 22, 1906 in Pickering Twp, Ontario, Canada. Mary is the mother of Mary M. Woodruff Sly.
