Elvis E. (Ernest) Smith, 70, of Dongola, died Sunday afternoon at Union County Hospital, Anna. Born April 19, 1901 in Alexander County, he was the son of James Smith and Marth Mcvoy Smith. He married Ellen Poole on July 5, 1921. She died July 30, 1958. on February 25, 1963 he married Mary Cooper. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife; daughters, Mrs. Lucille Mcrite of Olive Branch, Mrs. betty Stinson of Bridge City Texas, Mrs. Virginia Collins of Wilmington Delaware, Mrs. Mary Pitts of granite City, Mrs. Carol Sue Arnold of Germany, and Peggy and Alice smith, both of Dongola; sons, Elvis Jr. and Clarence, both of Granite City, Bill of Baldwin, and David of Dongola; a step daughter, Mrs Louise Duncan of Morris; a stepson, James of Dongola; sisters, Mrs. Jesse Dewitt of Mill Creek and Mrs. Effie Webster of Jerseyville; 36 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the first baptist church, Dongola, with the Rev. Lucien Bozarth officiating. burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery, West of Dongola. Friends may call after 4 p.m., Tuesday at the Crain funeral Home, Dongola.
