Mrs. Ellen Irene smith, 56, of 1107 Bissell Ave., Madison Illinois, formerly of Elco, died July 30 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Granite City. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 2, in the Elco baptist church, conducted by Rev. Robinson. Interment was in the St. John's Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Elco baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Elvis Smith, and eight children, Elvis Jr., Clarence, (Billy) Joe, Mrs. Mary Pitts and Sue Smith, all of the Granite City area; Mrs. Lucille McCrite, of Thebes, Mrs. betty Stinson of Orange, Texas., and Mrs. Virginia Collins of Wilmington Delaware. She is also survived by a brother, Gene Poole of Madison Illinois, and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Bryan and Mrs. Jewell Thomason, both of Granite City; a half brother, John Burnett of Granite City and a half sister, Mrs. Violet Draper of Buncombe; an Uncle, Mike Poole of Pulaski County and 23 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The Ford Funeral Home was in charge.
