John Pitts, son of James Pitts and Emiline (Spurlock) Pitts was born at Woodbury Tennessee, March 25, 1880 and departed this life at his home in Jonesboro Illinois, Thursday March 31, 1955 at the age of 75 years and six days. In 196 he was united in marriage to Minnie Elkins who survives. To this Union seven children were born, one son and six daughters. The son preceded him in death at infancy. He leaves besides his wife, six daughters, Mrs. Nova West, Mrs. May Boyer, Mrs. Daisy White, and Mrs. Evelyn Boyer all of Anna, Mrs. Violet Pitts of Mounds, Mrs. Helen Fear of Jonesboro and one step son, John West of Anna, five brothers, William, Oakley and Lester all of Anna, (James) Bee of Woodbury Tennessee, and Thomas of Dallas Texas, one sister, Mrs. Francis Brimm of Anna, 25 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was converted to the Lord in the year 1933 and remained a faithful Christian until his death. Brother Pitts was a kind and loving husband and father to his family and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services were held Sunday April 3 at 2 P.M. in the United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Marion Hileman, Rev. Wm. Lurley and Rev. Bennie Jones officiating. Interment was in the Casper Cemetery. Norris and Son were in charge of arrangements.
