Thomas "Pete" Pitts, 72 of Anna died at 6:05 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 1987 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. He was born March 17, 1915, in Union County, the son of Oakley (Allen) Pitts and Bessie Harper Pitts. He married Agnes (Shepard) Menees on February 4, 1948 in Cobden. He is survived by his wife, Agnes of Anna; three daughters, Alice Vedder of Honolulu Hawaii, Mary Larson of St. Charles, and Carolyn Pace of Lawrencville; one sister, Ann Drum of Mountain Home Ark.; three brothers, Frank Pitts and Roy Pitts, both of Anna, and James of Manteno; five grandchildren, Julie and Angela Vedder, Mathew, Joshua and Nathan Larson ; nieces and nephews. Mr. Pitts was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anna and the knights of Columbus Council at the church. He wasa World war II veteran and a member of the American Legion Post No. 344. He was a retired employee of the City of Anna, where he worked for 16 years in the utility department. He had also worked 16 years at the Anna Quarry. for 18 years he served on the Anna volunteer Fire Department. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 10, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Anna with Father Tom Miller and father Melvin Vandeloo officiating. Interment was in the Anna Cemetery. Rosary services were at 7 p.m. Friday, October 9 at the funeral home. Lutz and Rendelman Funeral Home in Anna was in charge of arrangements.
