Dovie (Merriman) Elkins, daughter of James and Ella Gournigan Merriman, was born in Woodbury Tennessee on November 15, 1899, and died Monday, October 24, 1994, at the City Care Center in Anna at the age of 94. Mrs. Elkins married James T. Elkins in Woodbury Tennessee on November 14, 1915. She was preceded in death by Mr. Elkins on July 14, 1974, and by one daughter, Virginia Lee Kelly. Mrs. Elkins was employed by the heel factory before her retirement. She was a member of the Ware United Pentecostal Church. Survivors include four sons, Ralph W. Elkins of Dexter Mo., James T. Elkins Jr. of Huntingburg Indiana, Donald R. Elkins of Mystic, Conn., and John W. Elkins of Anna; two daughters, Lillie Peeler of Vally Park, Mo., and Mildred Dunham of Pacific Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, today, at 1 P.M. at Ware Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Danny Jones officiating. Interment will be in Anna Cemetery. Mrs. Elkins will lie in state at the church Thursday, today, from 11 A.M. until the funeral hour. Norris and Son Funeral Home in Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements.
