John R. Thomas, son of William and Katherine Elkins Thomas, was born at Woodbury Tennessee , February 2, 1885 and departed this life at Nashville Tenn., at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cleo Oneal, August 4, 1955 at the age of 70 years 6 months and 1 day. In 1901 he was united in marriage to Cleo Oneal of Nashville, Tenn. To this Union two children were born, Cleo Oneal of Nashville Tenn., and Mrs. Nellie Oneal of Detroit Mich. On April 26, 1913, he was United in marriage to Inez Brimm, who preceded him in death. To this Union five children were born, Mrs. Stella Baumhueter and John Jr. both of Greer, South Carolina, bill of Jonesboro, Captain Carl with the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, and Katherine who passed away in infancy. On October 26, 1926, he was united in marriage to Miss Etta Walker, who survives. To this Union four children were born, Mary Wanda Rednour of Galesburg Illinois, Mrs. Bessie Irene Tramell of Rantoul Illinois, Carroll Eugene and Harroll Leroy of Eureka Illinois. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Della Pitts of Anna, 31 grandchildren and six great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. At an early age he confessed faith in Jesus Christ and united with the Christian Church of Woodbury, Tenn. Later in life he moved to Union County Illinois where he made his home for many years. Funeral services were held Sunday, August 7, 1955, at 2:30 P.M., in the Casper Chapel near Anna Illinois, with the Rev, Wm. H. Lirely officiating. Burial in the Casper Cemetery.
