It has been over 130 years now since Peder Pederson Evavold and his wife, Ingeborg, left there homeland in Norway and immigrated across the sea to America, settling in Eagle Lake Township, Ottertail County, Minnesota.This was in 1875.Peder and Ingeborg had no children of their own but it was they who first established Evavold as a family name in the United States. Thirteen years later, in 1888, Peder's brother, Klaus Pederson Evavold and his wife, Brithe, together with their seven children, made the journey.Traveling with Klaus was their second cousin, Iver Pederson Evavold (b.1840), together with his wife, Joharme, and family. Prior to this, in 1883, Anna, the widow of Ellev Pederson Evavold (brother to Klaus and Peder), and her son, Andrew Evavold, had immigrated to Eagle Lake Township to live with her brother-in-law, Peder Pederson Evavold.Anna and Ellev's second son, Peder, died during the voyage on the ship. Like his brother Peder, Klaus settled his family in Eagle Lake Township.Iver settled his family in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.This part of the blood relation later moved to the State of Washington.Thus, the Norwegian roots of the Evavold family were expanded and established in both Minnesota and Washington State. Klaus and Peder, together with second cousin Iver, had earlier left their birthplace on the South Evavoll Farm in Evavollen, southeast of Trondheim near Røros, to go work in the mines on the Island of Varaldsøya, southeast of Bergen.Their respective ships left Norway from the Bergen area around 1888, reportedly landing in Nova Scotia.From there they traveled by land through Canada toward Winnipeg, then southerly down into Minnesota. Klaus and Peder's older brother, Svein Pederson Evavold, stayed at home, inheriting the Evavold farm from their father, Peder Svendsen Evavoll, as was the practice at that time This EVAVOLD FAMILY TREE summarizes all of the blood related family tree information presently available to the authors, having traced it back over 275 years to 1737 when Peder Svendsen Wetzelvold was born and whose children and subsequent generations carried on the name of Evavoll or Evavold.They carried on this Evavold name because the place they were from was called Evavollen. Most of 140+ page EVAVOLD FAMILY TREE is about the ancestors and descendants of the Klaus Pederson Evavold family but chapters are included for his brother Svein (who stayed behind in Norway) & Ellev whose wife Anna emigrated to Minnesota as well) and his cousin Iver (whose descendants mostly settled in Washington State).
