The Hartland E. King's of Franklin County, Vermont

Looking for information on Joseph KING born 1835or 36 in Fletcher, Franklin Co, Vermont. No vitals have been found in the Town Clerks Office in Fletcher nor in State records in Middlesex, Vt, and at this time, I have no information on his parents whatsoever. He was living in the Daniel and Asa GREGORYS' household in the 1850-60&70 Federal Census Records for Vt.Franklin Co. Fletcher. (There is a Malissa GREGORY buried in the same plot as Joseph KING in the Rice Hill Cemetery in Sheldon, Franklin Co. Vermont.) She was also living in the GREGORY household in the 1850 and 60 census and listed as a sister of Asa, but disappears from the household after the 1860 census.

Joseph married Wealthy Anna GOEWEY, born August 09, 1840 in Richford, Franklin Co. Vt. No children were born to this marriage.

They adopted Edward Sidney ACKERS in Sept 1886. His name was changed to Edward Joseph KING, but always went by "Eddie".

Eddie was born September 15, 1876 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Webster ACKERS and Adelaide Augusta BESSEY.(born in Biddeford, Maine)I have recently obtained a marriage record that states that both these names are correct Also a census record for Massachusetts in the year 1860.I have traced the parentage of Webster ACKERS, and the father of Adelaide (American Liberty BESSEY) but have not found the maiden name of her mother, Caroline.

Webster ACKERS had an alias (JOHN PHILLIPS)as stated in the Civil War Pension Index. He enlisted at the age of 18 on March 13, 1865 and mustered out May 05, 1865. The record stated that Webster(John) was an unassigned recruit in the 1st Mass. Hy.Arty. and was a clerk in Company "D". Webster was listed along with his family members in the 1850 US Federal Census for Somerville, Middlesex C0, Massachusetts. He was age 3 at the time. I also found him in the 1880 Census in East Cambridge, Middlesex County, Mass. Thorndike Street House of Corrections at age 31.(a year after his wife's death from dysentery)

Edward J. KING married Leila Sarah COOK on June 10, 1906 in West Berkshire, Franklin Co. VT. To this marriage was born one son, Hartland Edward Joseph KING July 26, 1912 in Highgate, Franklin Co. Vt.

Hartland married Lorraine Eleanor MAGOON on July 21, 1938 in Waterbury, Vt.

Any information on these families will be appreciated and I am willing to share my files with you.
