Progressive Batavian November 19, 1875 Sherred Parker Esq. of Elba died at his residence in that town on Thursday morning of this week aged 81 years. Funeral services at the house on Saturday 20th inst. at 11 a.m. Progressive Batavian December 03 1875 Sherred Parker Elba-Another pioneer gone; --- One by one the stately pillars that have upheld the social fabric and long controlled the interests of the community are giving away. November 18th 1875 Sherred Parker Esq. an early settler of our town calmly passed over the river of death aged 81 years. He was born in Berkshire County Mass. August 4th 1794; and emigrated to Western New York with his parents in1811 being then 17 years old. They settled in what is now town of Bergen. (It should be Byron.) In 1817 he united in marriage with Miss Sarah Williams a lady of great merit with whom he happily spent some 55 years. Eight children crowned this felicitous union and all have lived to honor their old age. His youthful patriotism lead him to eagerly espouse the cause of his country and he did faithful service in the war of 1812; and was among those detailed to bury the dead after the battle and burning of Buffalo. In 1820 he settled in the north part of Elba where he continued to reside until his death. His townsmen honored him with many important public trusts all of which he guarded with unswerving fidelity. Sixteen consecutive year's service as town assessor indicates the confidence reposed in his good judgement and unswerving impartiality. Mr. Parker became a member of the Presbyterian Church some 35 years ago and has since borne a prominent part in all the interests of that church; and his liberal benefactions have often reached to other denominations. About two years ago he married Mrs. A. H. Robe who survives him Alphonso Parker living in Michigan and Nelson Parker Esq of Elba. His eight children four sons and four daughters are still living; six of them in Genesee county and two daughters in Michigan. His funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. S. Corwin of East Pembroke his former pastor on the 20th inst. assisted by Revs. L. Atwater and E. A. Wheat of Elba. A large and deeply sympathizing concourse accompanied his remains to their last resting-place. It rarely falls to the lot of any man to exert a more widespread and long continued influence over a community than has Mr. Parker upon the citizens of Elba.
