Notes for D
ANIEL COY:
Mrs. Packey relates: "Daniel Coy migrated to Mahoning County, Ohio while still under age. One historian wrote that he was the first of the Coys to come to Mahoning County. Another historian wrote that his half-brother, Henry Coy II was the first to arrive in Mahoning County. It is possible, though there was 14 years difference in their ages they came together to settle there."
A biography of Dr. Lewis D Coy, great grandson of Henry and Hannah states that their son, Daniel, "came to manhood in Green Township, Mahoning County, Ohio settling on wild land situated between Green village and New Albany on the Cherry Park Creek." (Page 734, Sanderson's 20th Century History of Youngston and Mahoning County, Ohio and Representative Citizens published in 1907).

Daniel was baptized on May 17, 1801 at St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran and Reformed Church, witness John Hoffman. (Washington County, Maryland Church Records).

The 1810 Peters Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania census registers Henry Coy as head of household and is most likely Henry Coy II as one male entry is shown as between the ages of 26-45. Henry II would have been age 34. His father, Henry, would have been much older. The report indicates a female between the age of 16-26. Mary, Henry II's wife, would have been age 26. Three children are shown in the household whose ages would be consistent with Daniel Coy, Margaret and Nancy Coy, the youngest children of Henry and Hannah. Devault Coy is shown as neighbor to Henry. The census report indicates three males and four females. One male and one female are shown to be in the age group of 45 and over and perhaps these two persons could be Henry and Hannah.

Recorded in Columbiana County, Ohio Marriages 1800-1870 and Other Evidence of Marriages in Book 2 page 40 is the marriage of Daniel Coy and Barbara Callihan married September 16, 1819 by David Coy.

The 1820 Green Township, Columbiana County, Ohio census, page 27, registers Daniel Coy as head of household. The report indicates one male between the age of 16-26, Daniel; and one female between the age of 16-26, Barbara. Daniel and Barbara lived in the same vicinity as his mother, Hannah, his brother, Samuel, and her parents, Jesse and Susan Callihan.
The 1830 Green Township, Columbiana County, Ohio census, page 419, registers Daniel Coy as head of household. The report indicates three males, one under 5, Wesley; one between 5-10, Jonas; and one between 30-40, Daniel; and four females, one under 5, Catherine; one between 5-10, Sarah; one between 10-15, Susannah; one between 30-40, Barbara. Several Callahan families live in the vicinity, including Barbara's parents, Jesse and Susan.
The 1840 Salem Township, Columbiana County, Ohio census, page 259, registers Daniel Coy as head of household. The report indicates six males, one under 5, David; one between the age of 5-10, Jesse; two between the age of 15-20, Jonas and Wesley; two between the age of 30-40, Daniel and unknown; five females, one between 5-10, Hannah; three between 15-20, Catherine, Sarah and Susannah; and on between 30-40, Barbara. Living in the same vicinity are Barbara's parents, Jesse and Susan Callihan.
The 1850 Green Township, Albany Village, Mahoning County, Ohio census registers Daniel Coy, age 50, his occupation listed as farmer, born in Maryland; his wife, Barbara, age 53, born in Pennsylvania; Jesse, age 18; Hanna, age 16; David, age 11; and Silas, age 9. The report indicates the value of the farm at $4269, and that his son, Wesley, and family lived in the next household.
Daniel is buried in the Busch Cemetery, Mercer County, Pennsylvania in Row 3. His tombstone reads: Daniel Coy d May 6, 1858 age 57y 10m 27d.
