Letters:
Excerpt from email recieved 12/03/2003 from Venus Nell Routh:
"I have been working the McPherson's for many years. In 1951 Lewin D. McPherson published a Kincheloe-McPherson book. I have a copy of it and was in correspondence with him. His line was Daniel who (I have since learned was transported as a prisoner following the Jacobite rebellion or 1715 in Scotland and was sold into, I think, 7 years of servitude in Charles County, Maryland.)

He believed from the information he had, that Daniel, William and Alexander, who were all in Charles County were brothers. William had come as a prisoner and his descendants, Maud Burr Morris and her cousin Alan Corson had researched William and Lewin D. McPherson had used their research on the McPhersons.

Since William had named his plantation Dalraddie, they assumed that he came from Dalraida in Scotland. However, since that time, Alan G. McPherson of St. John's, Newfoundland, has done an indepth study of the three Charles County McPherson's. His conclusion was that Dalraddie was a Badenoch name and that William had come from there. A 1717 letter from Daniel to his father, James, near Culloden, near Inverness in the north of Scotland had survived because it had been published as a broadsheet. And I has also been in contact with a descendant of Alexander and she had proof that Alexander was in Charles County at least ten years before the other two.

Daniel's will probated in Charles County names his wife, Elizabeth, 3 sons, Richard, Alexander, and Basil, and daughters Mary and Elizabeth.

Chloe who married John Rector was daughter of Richard. Lewin D. McPherson was through Richard's son Daniel who married Susannah Kincheloe.

Richard and Alexander and Basil migrated down through the Virginia counties: Fauquier, Bedford, Bottetourt, later Montgomery, and later Giles (now Craig). Not much on Basil, although he does show up from time to time, but Richard and Alexander owned adjoining lands.

In 1808 Alexander and wife Mary deeded land in Giles County to his sons Isaac, Jacob, and James. In 1824 Joseph and Jacob signed a deed as part of the heirs of Alexander McPherson, dec'd.

In 1986 we got in contact with Rosa McPherson Crow of Bowling Green, Ohio, a delightful lady in her 80's. Her grandfather was Isaac Jr., son of Isaac and Mary. He had married Elizabeth Kennedy in Washington County, Tennessee (Jonesboro) and raised a large family. He was a merchant in a nearby town of Leesburg. Sometime after 1850 he moved to Iowa, then Missouri, where his first wife died; later he landed in Arkansas and married a widow Rosanna West in 1868. She had a family by her first marriage, and together they had one son, John Marshal McPherson, Rosa's father.

Rosa was born in 1901, and died 14 Jan. 1997. She had lived in California and after her husband died, she moved to Ohio to be near her only child, a son.

I was also in correspondence with Dorothy (Mrs. Eldon) Lindbloom."
