John Golphin Wiggins was born February 17, 1815, in Georgia. At present, his mother is unknown, but evidence points to Blassingame G. Paulett, of Burke and later Dooly County, as his father. In 1834 his name was changed to John Golphin Paulett. Some time after 1834, John's last name appeared on records as Pollett and he was known most of his life as "Goff Pollett." A study of the Wiggins family of Emanuel County, Georgia may provide the identity of his mother. The families of John Wiggins, James Wiggins, Ashley E. Wiggins, and Amos Wiggins of Jefferson and Emanuel counties may be closely connected.
Some time before 1839, Goff married Edith Durden, Daughter of Henry Durden, of Emanuel County, Georgia, and they had eight children.
Records in the Emanuel County Court House show John G. Pollett married Emmaline McDaniel after the death of Edith. Emmaline was the daughter of Andrew Jackson McDaniel and Elvy Fortner of Johnson County, Georgia. The 1900 Federal Census lists Goff and Emmaline living in Montgomery County near Uvalda, Georgia.
