STEPHEN (1825-1865) and DELITHA(1824-1903) POPE - Of Black River Township, Cumberland Co., N.C. Apparently were cousins since they were both Popes.Delitha's parents were Wesley Pope and Jane Jackson Pope but I have not been able to link Stephen. Nor have I positively linked Wesley. From property records and "studying the neighborhood" between 1800 and 1850 I feel very strongly that Wesley was the son of Stephen (1780/1859),son of Poole Hall Pope. I feel certain that Poole was a decendent of the Edgecomb Co. Popes probably Jacob and Sarah who were the "Elders" in his Dobbs and Greene Co neighborhoods but have not established it. I have a land transfer from Poole to "his son Stephen". Also there was a Sylas (Silas) of the same age as Stephen. I believe that these boys were brothers as they lived right together for about 40 years and shortly after Poole died they both moved through Ga., Ala and Stephen continued on to Miss.Is there a kind, knowledgable spirit out there who can lift me over this barrier? I am a decendent of Emmett J./ Willis Francis / William Poole Pope as reflected in the attached decendent tree. Will there come a time when the memories fade, and pass on with the long, long years, when the ties no longer bind? Lord save me from this darkest fear, don't let me come home a stranger.
