I am researching the family of John Sutherland, born 1816 at Killimster, Wick, Caithness, Scotland and died 1889 at Chippendale, New South Wales, Australia. John was the son of John Sutherland and Louisa Thomson. He was a builder in Australia and went on to become a Member of the Legislative Assembly and held the post of Minister for Public Works. He was survived by one child, daughter Louisa Mary Sutherland who married Thomas John Chapman. Several other members of the Sutherland family also came to Australia and I am interested in making contact with any descendants for an exchange of information. I am currently preparing a biography on the life of John Sutherland and his political activities. |
