| We are researching the following names: Porter, Gilman, Baner, Cholerton, Godfrey, Corson, Griffith, Davis, Thompson, Van Zant, Camp, Shildt, Slimmer, Zimmerman, Keen, Langstaff, Smith, Dillman, Meredith, & many others. The Shildt, Dillman, Meredith, & Smith lines are German and they settled around Berks Co., PA and Juniata Co., PA. The Porters probably came from England to Delaware around 1826. They lived in Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle Co., DE 1850-1880. John Noah Porter (1805-1878) m. Sarah Griffith or Flower (1810-1888). John died in Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle Co., DE. We believe that they lived in PA at some time. John Noah Porter, Jr. m. Ida A. Davis and they also resided in Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle Co., DE. Most of the other lines settled in Southern New Jersey in the early 1700's. |
