I am researching the Hemmer Family from Bittengen, Germany now the town of Schmelz, Germany. They settled in Worthington, Dubuque Co., Iowa in 1852. My great great grandfather was Nicholas Hemmer and his wife was Maria Kreamer. My great grandfather was Jacob Hemmer who married Susanna Merfeld in 1880. Her family was also from Bittengen, Germany. They went to Madison Co., Nebraska in 1880 and lived next to his brother Nicholas Hemmer. My great grandfather then went to Lyons Co., Iowa and soon after bought property in Sioux Co., Iowa on the Lyons Co., Sioux Co., line. My grandfather Frank Hemmer was born there. Jacob then moved his family to Kalispell, Flathead Co., Montana. Where they homesteaded. My grandfather married Pearl Alena Eayrs. My father was Bruce Robert Hemmer who married my mother Ruth McKane who was from Philadelphia,Pennsylvania. They met at Ft. Benning, Georgia.
I am researching the following families, Hemmer, Merfeld, Eayrs, Palmer, Earl, McKane, Risso, Posey, Horton, McCurdy, Stafford, and Mitchell.
