Mabel Irene Van Hoosen Merwin
Mrs.
Mabel Irene Van Hoosen Merwin, 85, of Clear Lake, died Monday, June 30, 1997 at
her home.
Funeral
services will be held Thursday, July 3, at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Free
Church with the Rev. Tim Merwin and Rev. David French of First Assembly of God
Church in Mason City officiating. Interment will be in the Grant Center
Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 2 at Ward-Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. The family suggests memorials in her name.
Mabel was born on a farm north of Ventura Jan. 1, 1912 to Abe and Louise Van
Hoosen. She graduated from Fertile High School in 1930. She then attended teacher's
college in Cedar Falls. She taught in Grant, Lincoln and Lime Creek rural
schools until she married Arthur Dale Merwin on June 24, 1939, and lived in
Clear Lake since that time.
She
gave her heart to Jesus on Aug. 22, 1933. She loved teaching Sunday School
Children's Church being a guide in Christian Women's Club besides volunteer
work at the Clear Lake Care Center. Her hobbies were knitting and crocheting
She is survived by her husband, Art Merwin, Clear Lake; daughters, Marilyn and
her husband, Eugene Jackson, Greensburg, Ind., Glenys and her husband, Al
Schloemer and Phyllis and her husband, Robert, all of Mason City; one son,
Larry Merwin and his wife Hilda, Satellite Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Vera and
her husband, Spence Abrams Sr., Clear Lake and Etta Mae Conroy, Garner, Iowa;
seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; and a son-in-law, Edgar Randolph.
