Notes for William Thurman Bausell: Wm Thurman came to Russell County some time in 1836 - Per his pension application filed in 1904 which states he lived in Russell County for 68 years.
The census of 1850 listed many new names in Russell, among them William T. Boswell, wife Hannah and four children. A search of deed records revealed the following: in 1847 and 1857, W.T. Boswell is recorded as buying acreage in Carr's Creek section; in 1897, same for W. T. Bauswell; in 1898, he was Bausell, and in 1903, W. T. and Hannah Bausell deeded to son John C. and wife, Virginia Bausell the "homeplace" with the understanding that they take care of parents for the rest of their lives. The 1850 census recorded Thurmond, as a 25 yr. old stone mason, bon in NC, Hannah 19 born in VA (1880 census indicated she was born in NC.

Capt. William Thurman Bausell died Sunday morning, May 23rd, 1909 at Bolton, this county, where he had lived all his life, being, at the time of his death, eighty-eight years old. His wife preceded him five years ago in this month. In early life Captain Bausell united with the Baptist Church and remained a devout member of that denomination. His affection for friends and kindred was tender and abiding and will long linger as a fragrant memory with them. Five children survive, namely JW Bausell, Lebanon; CW Bausell, Copper Creek; JC Bausell, Bolton; Mrs. Mary Reynolds, Washington County; and Miss Cynthia Bausell, of St. Paul. The funeral services were conducted by Revs. Spring and Fuller.

Capt. Wm. T. Bausell, of Moccasin, passed to his reward last Saturday morning at 1:30 AM, aged 87 years. The large crowd that attended his funeral on last Monday attested the fact that he was held in very high esteem. In early life he learned the stone mason trade, and his work in Russell and Washington Counties stands as a monument to his skill as a workman. He never had a lawsuit in his life, and never was warranted. He was a member of the Baptist Church, and lived a consistent life. Rev. Frank Fuller paid a glowing tribute to his live and character and performed the last sad rites at the burial.
