_____Lebanon News was not_____ week before last and last _____ and the cause of its non _____rance was the fact that a _____ dark shadow fell across ____home - a light went out and _____ us in the gloom of a deep bereavement.
_____Brother is dead.
On Tuesday, January 27th, John T. Bausell, son of J.W. Bausell and brother of the editor of the News met with a horrible accident which resulted in his death. He was sawyer for Mr. J.H. Jessee, who has a mill three miles north west of Lebanon, when the saw caught a slab, cut it in two and hurled one piece with great force against his head, crushing the skull. He was carried to Mr. Jessee’s home where Drs. Burns and Gilmer removed ten pieces of fractured bone, one of which was taken out of the brain. Absent sisters and brothers were hurriedly summoned, the only hope of his recovery being his remarkable constitution. After twelve days of suffering the end came Saturday at 2:15 pm.
It is with a sad heart that we write and tears mingle themselves with our thoughts.
John was an exceedingly useful and honorable man, possessing the love and confidence of his entire community. He was a fine mechanic and a skillful machinist. The many sorrowing friends and neighbors who attended his bedside and the large crowd who attended the funeral attested the high esteem in which he was held.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Barney Thompson of Russell College. Attended by a large number of sorrowing friends the remains were interred in the Lebanon cemetery.
The deceased was 34 years of age. He leaves a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Bausell, three sisters, Mrs. Z.N. Whitt, Mrs. J.P. Teets, and Miss Maggie Bausell, five brothers, W.T. Bausell, C.C. Bausell, M.W. Bausell, H.F. Bausell and Jim T. Bausell and a devoted wife to mourn his loss, besides two little girls who will be denied a father’s love and tender care. May the God of the fatherless keep and preserve them.
The wife, parents, brothers and sisters of the deceased wish to return sincere thanks to all persons who gave freely their aid in comforting and helping us in this, our dark hour of sorrow, and especially do we thank Mr. J.H. Jessee who so faithfully sat at the bedside of the deceased.
C.C. Bausell, editor of the Scott County Leader has returned to Gate City.
Miss Cynthia Bausell attended the funeral of J.T. Bausell at this place (Lebanon) Sunday, and left Wednesday, accompanied by M.W. Bausell, to visit relatives at Bolton.
J.C. Bausell and wife, C.W. Bausell and wife and Miss Sallie Gilmer, of Bolton and Creswell respectively, attended the funeral of J.T. Bausell at this place, Sunday.
S.N. Whitt and wife returned Tuesday to Swords Creek, after being here several days during the illness and death of the latter’s brother.
M.W. Bausell and Mrs. Hannah Teets, brother and sister of the editor of the News, the former of Pawnee, Oklahoma, and the latter from Carabell, Florida, are here at present having been summoned to the bedside of their brother. Mr. Bausell left this county eleven years ago and this is his first visit home. When Mrs. Teets arrived, which was a few hours too late to see her brother alive, brothers and sisters were brought together for the first time in over twenty-five years, but what a sad, sad reunion it was.
