March 1939 O.P. POYNER LONG TIME RESIDENT OF SUTHERLAND DIED MONDAY MORNING In the passing of Oliver Perry Poyner, Sutherland Saw one of her oldest residences go to the last reward. Familiar character of the streets of Sutherland since 1893, friends will miss him greatly. Mr. Poyner has been confined to his home for the past few years. Oliver Perry Poyner was born April 24, 1854 at Greencastle, Putnam Co., Indiana, and passed away at Sutherland, Nebr., March 20, 1939. In 1865 He went to Missouri, living there until 1881, then went to eastern Kansas. In February, 1885, he came to Lincoln Co., Nebraska, taking a homestead. He was united in marriage to Martha E. Roberts, May 15, 1890. They moved into Sutherland in May 1893. He leaves to mourn his passing, five daughters, one step daughter and one son. His wife preceeded him in death, Jan. 14, 1936. He has been a charter member of the Woodman Lodge since 1893.
