Edwin W. Honeycutt was born cir 1819-1820, some census record his birthplace as Indiana, some Tennessee. On September 26, 1847 in Benton County, Missouri, Edwin married Celia Ann Franklin (Book A-page 94, Benton County, Missouri marriage records).
Edwin and Celia began their large family with the births of Hiram and Louisa (these may have been twins, as they were the same age on the Missouri census). Then came Fredrick, John, Alfred, Malinda, Needham, Jacob, Celia Jane and Louis.
Physical features of Ed and Celia Ann: he was short and weighed about three hundred pounds; she was of Indian descent, very high tempered, ruling her young family with severe discipline. This was told by Louis to his second wife, Myrtle.
Benton County, Missouri census records for 1870 lists Edwin and Celia with ten children: Hiram-age 22; Louisa-age 20; Fredrick-age 18; John-age 16; Alfred-age 14; Malinda-age 12; Needham-age 10; Jacob-age 8; Celia Jane-age 6; and Lewis-age 3. US census in Benton County, Missouri taken 28 June 1870, page 17.
Edwin's age on the 1860 census was 25, 1870 as 35 and 1880 as 57. Assuming that the first two are correct, she would have been born about 1835, and all of the census list Indiana as her birth place. Living next door to Edwin and Celia is Eliza Franklin, age 48, born in Kentucky. Eliza has 5 children in her household at that time, Hiram-age 17; Joseph-no age listed; Martha-age 12; Julia-age 10; and Emily-age 5. This could possibly be Celia's step-mother and her siblings.
Edwin and Celia owned property in Benton County Missouri, Section 28, Township 40, Range 20. March 8, 1865, they sold or lost their forty acres to Engel Echkoff for the sum of $125.00. Engel Echkoff heirs still own the land that Ed and Celia Ann had once owned.
Edwin and Celia Ann lived in Benton County, Missouri until Edwin's death between the years of 1880 and 1887. According to son Lewis, he was buried along the Osage River, in Missouri. Celia and her children that were remaining at home, moved to Ozark County, in south central Missouri by the year 1887. Here she would be near some of her married sons, Hiram and John. Hiram and Celia are found on the tax records.
They lived here until Lewis married Nancy Elizabeth Davis on September 13, 1887, at 11:30 am at the home of Nancy's mother and stepfather, Noah Bones Cooley. Nancy was the daughter of Eda Friend Davis Cooley and Andrew Jackson Davis. They were married by Nancy's stepbrother-in-law, John F. Tabor. The wedding took place in Isabella, Missouri with the consent of Lewis's mother. Their daughters had married earlier, Louisa in 1879, and Celia Jane in 1884.
Celia died in Arkansas in the 1890's or early 1900's and is buried in the Cabin Creek cemetery as is Lewis and Alfred. The cemetery is on the banks of the Buffalo River and is only accessable by horse, boat, or foot.
Marriage records in Benton County, Missouri, list other Honeycutts who were possible siblings of Edwin, these include: William Riley Honeycutt married Mary Smith (daughter of Issac Smith) on October 10, 1842; Maude Honeycutt married George Washington Boyles on February 26, 1868, and Louisa E. Honeycutt married William R. Smith on March 12, 1854.
Edwin and Celia are the parents of Hiram who was the father of Louis who was the father of Harry Rudoph Honeycutt.
