Paintsville Herald, May 24, 1918
Sunday, June 16, is going to be one of the Red Letter days for Thealka, as we are going to have one of the greatest patriotic rallies as was ever held in Johnson County. We are going to raise one of the largest flags that has ever been flown in Johnson County. Arrangements are being made to have some of the best speakers in this end of the state to address the people. Music will be furnished by a band and local singing. Let everyone remember that date and come so that we can become better acquainted with present conditions and get the spirit of the times instilled in us as we never had before, then the Kaiser and his cohorts will begin to see that we are in this war to stay and that we will fight our way to victory and peace. May our flag ever wave over the land of the free and the home of the brave - a haven of peace and rest for all nations and a symbol of right. Messrs. W. R. Davis, R. C. Burton, McClellan Preston, Sterling Rice and Elmer Dawson, attended the flag raising at Auxier Sunday.

Misses Carroll Yeager, Margaret Dawson and Messrs. Virgil Picklesimer, McClellan Preston enjoyed a nice game of tennis Sunday evening.

Paintsville Herald, June 6, 1918
