Services Monday For Mahala Penix, 94
Mrs. Mahala Penix, 94, beloved and aged resident of Boons Camp, died January 3 at 5:00 p.m., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Effie Crum, after an illness of two years. A lifelong resident of this county, she was born December 4, 1864, the daughter of the late Will and Betty Branham Mollett. She had been a member of the United Baptist Church for the past seventy-five years. Her husband, John Penix, preceded her in death March 27, 1935. Survivors include two sons, Seymore and George Penix, both of Davisport; five daughters, Mrs. Effie Crum, Boons Camp; Mrs. Nola Cline, Chattaroy, WV; Mrs. Josie Pruitt, Dayton, OH; Mrs. Jessie Cline, Columbus, OH; Mrs. Carmen Delong, Davisport; two brothers, Elias Mollett, Boons Camp; Joe Mollett, Debord; one sister, Roxie Crum, Debord. Also surviving are forty seven grandchildren, 159 great grandchildren and 44 great, great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 5, at the Little Friendship United Baptist Church at Boons Camp with Flem Arrowood, Winfrey Meek and Nim Sturgill as officiating ministers. Burial was in the Mollett Cemetery at Boons Camp.

Dies November 17 in Morehead
Funeral Tuesday for Mother of Prof. George Butcher
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Butcher, widow of the late Frank M. Butcher, and mother of Prof. George W. Butcher of Thelma died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Allie Parker in Morehead, Sunday, November 17. She was married to Frank M. Butcher on December 6, 1883. Mr. and Mrs. Butcher lived in Johnson County until 1911 when they moved to Rowan County. In 1920, they moved to Goshen OH, where her husband died on December 10, 1937.For the past several years, Mrs. Butcher had lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Allie Parker of Morehead. Surviving besides Prof. Butcher and Mrs. Parker are eight other children, H. H. Butcher, Bypro, KY, John M. Butcher, former county court clerk of Rowan County, and now a retired employee of the Tennessee Gas TransmissionCompany; Mrs. J. M. Caudill, Mrs. J. M. Groves; Mrs. Caleb Brummett, Leonard Butcher, Walter Butcher and Frank Butcher, all of OH. Preceding her is death were two children, James N. Butcher and Cynthia Butcher. Also surviving are one half-brother, George W. Perry and one half-sister, Mrs. Laura Mills, both of Martin County, 43 grandchildren, 88 great grandchildren and 20 great, great grandchildren. One granddaughter, Mrs. Anne B. Hail, is Representative elect to the General Assembly from Floyd County. Mrs. Butcher's life was an inspiration to all of her relatives. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. Her funeral was conducted at the First Baptist Church of Morehead on Tuesday, November 19. Interment was in the Coshen Cemetery.

Death Takes Laura B. Crum July 12
Laura B. Crum, 64, wife of Thomas Crum of Boons Camp died July 12 at her home after an illness of several years. She was a native of Johnson County and had lived at Boons Camp all her life, where she was a respected and well-liked member of the community.She was married to Thomas Crum on Sept. 22, 1922. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Crum, and two children; one daughter, Mrs. Chloe Perry of Aflex, KY, and one son, Jeff Perry of Boons Camp.Also nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 13 at 2:00 at the residence with Rev. John Crum, Van Lear, Rev. Leonard Walters, and Rev. Lafe Preston of Buffalo officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery at Boons Camp.
