Funeral services were held Saturday, May 11, 1 p.m. at the Preston Funeral Chapel for Garnett Miles, 84, who passed away Thursday, May 9, 2002 at Paul B. Hall Medical Center. Mrs. Miles was born June 29, 1917 in Williamson, WV, daughter of the late James and Lena Daniels Boyd. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oakie Miles. Surviving are one daughter, Annie Jean Heer of Panama City, FL; one sister, Lena Spence of Paintsville; two grandsons; three great-granddaughters; seven step-grandchildren. The service was officiated by Isaac Rowland, with burial following in the family cemetery, Whitehouse, KY.

Heart Attack Fatal to Mrs. Daniel
Mrs. Fanny Daniel, 62, wife of Fonnie Daniel, local photographer, was found dead in her home on Friday, April 27, 1945, several hours after she had succumbed to a heart attack. Mr. Daniel, who had left her attending to household duties on Friday morning, April 27, 1945, returned at 7 o’clock in the evening, finding her dead in her chair. She was the daughter of the late W. S. and Belle Thompson Jordon of Lawrence County. She is survived by three sons, Leroy, with the U. S. Army in Germany, and Morris and Robert of Seattle, WA, also four daughters, Mrs. Maudie Davenport, city, Mrs. Ernest Griffith and Mrs. Jimmie Ruth Meade at home and Jackie of Cleveland, OH. None of the sons were able to be present at their mother's funeral. One son, Troy preceded her in death several years ago. Funeral services were held at the Mayo Memorial Church by Rev. J. L. Layne on Monday, April 30, 1945, and burial was made in the family lot in the Town Cemetery under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held today in Oak Springs United Baptist Church for Walter Daniels, 52, Ashland former resident of this county, who died Sunday noon at his home following an illness of seven months. Elders Edison Conley and Everett Slone officiated at the services and burial was made in the Oak Springs Cemetery. Mr. Daniels, an Appliance Salesman, was born in Johnson County November 4, 1903, a son of the late David K. & Frances Stapleton Daniels. Surviving are a son, Paul Edwin Daniels, of the U.S. Navy; one daughter, Mrs. Ella Frances Gilpin, Paintsville; his stepmother, Mrs. Ella Daniels, Wheelersburg, OH; two brothers, Lloyd Daniels, Ashland and Williams Luther Daniels, Waverly, OH; three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Worley, Dester, OH, Mrs. Harry Posey, Coal Grove and Mrs. Eliza Hanshaw, Ironton; three half- brothers, David K. Daniels, Jr., U.S. Army in Germany, Clyde Daniels, Circleville, OH, and Arthur Daniels, Wheelersburg; two half-sisters, Mrs. Aileen Reister, Washington Court House, OH, and Mrs. Mary Magdalene Short, Japan, and five grandchildren.

County Man Dies in Arizona
Perry Daniel, 49, Phoenix, AZ, former resident of this county, died at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Phoenix, AZ, Monday, January 25, 1955 following an illness of seven months. Born November 26, 1905 in Johnson County, he was the son of the late Rev. David K. and Frances Stapleton Daniel. He was married in 1928 to Miss Ruth Pack, who survives. He joined the Oak Springs United Baptist Church when he was 18 and remained a faithful member until his death. Surviving besides his wife are one son, Perry Eugene, his step mother, Mrs. Ella Daniel, Wheelersburg, OH; five sisters, Mrs. Bessie Worley, Dexter, OH; Mrs. Jeanette Posy and Mrs. Eliza Hanshaw, both of Ironton, OH; Mrs. Eileen Resetor. Washington Court House, Ohio; Mrs. Mary Short, Japan; six brothers, Lloyd Daniel, Ashland; Luther Daniel, Waverly, OH, Walter Daniel, Ashland, David K. Daniel, Jr., SC; Clyde Daniel, Circleville, OH and Arthur Daniel, Wheelersburg, OH. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, January 30, 1955 at the Oak Springs United Baptist Church with the Revs. Everett Slone, Prater Blair and Edison Conley officiating. Burial was made in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
