Joseph went to Boston. He was born about 1645/6 and died in 1697. He seems to have been the one on whom James had to lean in his declining years. James Jr. whom he had declared to be the " Staff of his life,"suicided at Salem; Deleverance was the favorite daughter, her husband, Shadrack Thayer was counsellor for the family. Joseph Married Hannah Hagar in January 1674/5. She was born 21 November 1649 the daughter of William and Mary (Bemis) Hagar of Watertown and died 6 of may 1702.
Joseph received one half of his fathers house in Boston. In Suffolk County deeds vol.18, page 161 is the record ( May 20, 1698)of the deed(19 January 1674) to the house in Boston, and following it on p. 162 is a deed to the same property given by " Hannah Priest of Watertown and Relict of James Priest late Watertowne aforesd Potter Decd, Son of James late of Waymouth....also decd, JamesPriest, Joseph Priest and Hannah Priest of Watertown aforesd only children of the sd Joseph and Hannah Priest first named above." Know Yee, that wee the sd Hannah Priest the mother and James Priest, Joseph Priest, and HannahPriest the children, for... paid by Sarah Robes of Boston...(deed a) full halfe part of a dewelling house in Boston...all of which above granted premises was by Deed under the hand and seale of our Father and Grandfather the sd James Priest Decd bearing Date nineteenth Day of January 1674 settled and confirmed upon us... and wee the said Hannah Priest the mother and James Priest, Joseph Priest, and Hannah Priest the children for ourselves..." This was signed on 5 November 1697 by the mother and two sons, and acknowledged in Boston the same day ".
Bodge's " Soldiers in King Phillip's War " shows that Joseph Priest was with Capt. Daniel Henchman by 14 September 1675 and with Capt. William Tumer.
Soldiers in King Phillips War ( 1675-1767 ) were promised land grants. In the Massachusetts Archives, Vol 115, p.764, begins the original of such. " A List of the grantees for the Narragansett township No.2." On p. 765, under the town of Watertown are 26 names. The 12th line is. " Joseph Priest for his father Joseph." Narragansett Township No. 2 became Westminister, Mass.
