(ECC Wills and Deeds.] From "Historic Homes of Middlesex County, Virginia" book: On page 125, Ellaslee, the home near church view . . . . In 1753, John Segar, Jr., sold to Daniel Stringer his "Messuage, Plantation, Tract" of 70 acres, which adjoined additional property owned by Stringer. A Messuage is defined as a house whose occupant controlled the use of the land and buildings pertaining to it, and it is assumed that Daniel Stringer bought the home of John Segar, Jr. In 1790, Daniel Stringer left to his son Daniel the Plantation where Stringer, Sr. lived and his brandy still, and that was the same year Daniel, Jr. and Mary Stringer conveyed the 196 acre estate to John Jesse of King and Queen County who had married Elizabeth Street in 1787."
