Notes for C
HARLES STRINGER:
From "Stokes Family Tree" web page at http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:2998492&id=I532:

"Charles Stringer listed on the 1790 census, p. 56, had one white male over 16 (self), 6 w/m under 16, and 5 free white females.... Charles was awarded land in the 1805 Georgia land lottery in what became Laurens County, and was on the first grand jury of the first court in that County. By 1818, he had sold all his land in Laurens County in preparation of his family's move to Lawrence County, Mississippi. While other researchers believe that Charles died in Georgia before he could make the move to Mississippi, there is the Charles Stringer listed in Lawrence County, Mississippi in the 1818 tax rolls (while he paid a tax of $0.67, he is not shown to own any land, but one slave) and again in 1823 Charles is mentioned. My source for much of the information on his family, Dorothy Stringer Roberts, believes that Charles made the move and died in Mississippi in his 70s; I agree with her conclusion. (Taken from the Internet. I don't know who wrote it.)"

OHN STRINGER III:
From "Stoke Family Tree" web site at http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:2998492&id=I520:

"John served in the Revolutionary War along with his brothers Noah and Josiah. According to the publication "Southern Kith and Kin," John Stringer enlisted June 3, 1777, as a musician in Capt. William Shepherd's company, 10th Nort h Carolina Militia Regiment, and was promoted in June 1778. In September 1778, John Stringer was in Major Hardy Murphree's company, Col. John Patton's Second North Carolina Battalion, at White Plains. He received a $100 Bounty on July 31, 1780. On Feb. 8, 1782, he enlisted for one year as a corporal in Capt. James Mill's company, North Carolina 10th Regiment, but appears to have been serving as a private in December. He was granted 640 acres for 84 months of service. (It must be remembered that there were several John Stringers in each generation, and certainly more than one served in the Revolution.) About 1800, he moved with some of his children to Robertson County, Tennessee. As an old man, in 1820, John went to Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, and joined at least two of his sons there. The 1790 census shows John with four males over 16, 2 under 16, and three free white females. We know the males, but can't identify the two female children."

"There is some confusion as to when Selah died, and when/where Josiah married Lucretia; one or more of the children credited to Lucretia may well have been Selah's. Wit: Gd. Killebrew, Emanuel (X) Laller. In Edgecombe County, North Carolina, Josiah bought and sold property along Town Creek and Ruffin's Branch from 1782 until 1799, when he sold what appears to have been the last of his property in North Carolina, and about that time he and others of his family removed to Georgia. Josiah is listed as married, living in Burke County, Georgia in 1805. Also in Burke County that year: Alexander, Celia (widow with children], Charles, James, John (single), Simon and Smith (both listed as unmarried). The book "Laurens County, Georgia legal records 1807 -- 1832" by Alan Thomas, lists considerable activity by Josiah Stringer from 1806 to 1815. Josiah is listed as resident of Wilkinson County initially, buying property; then Laurens County later, selling. Other Stringers mentioned: Jacob, Simon, John, Charles, and Noah Stringer, who is mentioned as "justice of inferior court". Josiah appears on the 1818 tax records for Lawrence County, Mississippi, with 320 acres on White Sand Creek, with others of his family. The 1820 census for Lawrence County shows Josiah with 1 male under 10 (Josiah Franklin]; 1 male 10 -- 18 (William); 1 male 18 -- 26 (Levi). Females: 1 under 10 (Deborah), 3 10 -- 16 (Alba, Nancy, Sarah]. This census also indicates the presence of 2 female slaves, age 14 -- 25. UCRETIA ?:
From "Stokes Family Tree" web site at http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:2998492&id=I543:

"The 1860s census for Lawrence County, Mississippi, shows Lucretia in Monticello Township, and the household of A. J. [Andrew
Jackson] Burkett; he was the brother of two of Lucretia's daughters-in-law (Mary, who married Levi, and Sarah Ann, who married Josiah Franklin). Since it has not yet been established as to when and where Lucretia and Josiah were married, Levi was either her son or her stepson. Other researchers have indicated that Lucretia was the natural mother of Solomon and Eliza Hargrove, for whom Josiah was appointed guardian in 1822. Solomon and Eliza were the children of Howel (Howell) Hargrove; if Lucretia was his widow, she certainly could not have been the natural mother of Sarah Stringer, who married Solomon Hargrove. The first two or three children listed for Lucretia may well have been the children of Selah Davis, Josiah's first wife. It is not known for certain when and where Lucretia and Josiah were married. Best guess would be about 1798-99 in Edgecombe County, NC. It could have been in Georgia. Recent data indicates a belief that Lucretia married Josiah after the birth of Sarah, and that Lucretia was the widow of a Hargrove, and the natural mother of Solomon, who married Sarah. Lucretia could not be a natural mother of both Sarah and Solomon, if those two were married."
