Family history would indicate either David or Daniel. Abner Stringer of Burke County, Georgia is listed as having been granted the flowing land in the 1820 and 1821 Georgia land lotteries: Appling County, section 4, Lot 313, J. Ward's military district. Abner D. Stringer cut his leg while splitting rails, and the leg was amputated. Census p. 102. Previous information indicates spouse name as Mary Forrest, (Ima Stringer information] date of marriage, 21 February 1858. Daniel Emery Stringer died 23 Dec. 1864 and CSA. Private, May 1, 1862, Co. A, 'the Dixie Boys,' 57th regiment Thomas County, Georgia, Georgia volunteer infantry, army of Tennessee, transferred to company C, 28th BM, Georgia Seige artillery on March 9, 1864; severely wounded at John's and James Islands, South Carolina July 1 - 10 - 1864; transferred to James Island, South Carolina hospital Oct. 28, 1864. (Roster of the Confederate soldiers of Georgia, volume 5, p. 930.) Daniel was one of the executors of the will of his father. In July, 1859, Mary, widow of Daniel's father [his second wife] petitioned to have Daniel E. dismissed as executor of the estate on the grounds: (1) he charged $275 as overseer in violation of the terms of the will; (2) he charged for the hiring of his Negroes Cato and Sam, $100, which was not allowed; (3) he improperly paid "A. Stringer" $400 from the estate; (4) he neglected and refused to turn over certain legacies mentioned in the will; (5) he failed to turn over legacie s to the grandchildren's guardian; (6) he neglected cattle and lands of the estate; (7) failed to file proper returns and charged undue commissions; (8) said executor was in failing circumstances, and may have become insolvent....on the March 5, 1860, Daniel E. resigned as executor, being replaced by John C. Browning. Daniel stated that 'said legatees are unfriendly with your petitioner.'" [Punctuation partially corrected.] |

'Whereas, Josiah Stringer this day makes application, by petition to this court for letters of guardianship for the person of Granburn Sweatman, a minor.' Josiah M. Stringer was the first born of Daniel Stringer's second marriage, Mary Layton. Sara O. Stringer, the fourth child of Daniel's first marriage to Mariah Melly Higdon (therefore, Josiah M. Stringer's half sister) was married to George W. Sweatman. Perhaps Josiah was petitioning for guardianship of his half sister's son. Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, volume 3, p. 445 Company B, 29th imh Regiment, Georgia volunteers, infantry of Tennessee: Josiah M. Stringer, private Aug. 28, 1861. In general hospital at Guyton, Georgia, February 29, 1964. Court of Ordinary, Thomasville, Thomas County, Georgia; Dec. 10, 1863 Josiah M. Stringer and Larkin Mimms, husband of Josiah M. sister Elizabeth, petitioned the court to appoint Commissioners to appoint the estate of Daniel, Josiah's the other........... Georgia, Thomas County to the Honorable Court of Ordinary of said County. The petition of Josiah M. Stringer and Larkin Mimms respectfully showeth that the day and each Distributees under the Will of Daniel Stringer, deceased. That by said Will the land, household and kitchen furniture and other personal property (negroes excepted) become subject to division upon the death or marriage of his widow -- that the said widow has intermarried with James M. Horn, that by said will the negros become divided as each child should become of age, and they further show that Sarah, Josiah M. and Elizabeth Mimms, wife of the said Larkin, have each arrived at the age of 21. That John C. Browning executor of said will has had due and legal notice of this application for a division of said land and negros in terms of said will. Wherefore they pray the court to appoint Commissioners to divide said Estate in terms of the provisions of said will in duty bound will ever prey. etc. (s) J. M.
