The Proesel Family:Information about Henry William Knaus
Henry William Knaus (b. 28 Oct 1883, d. 03 Aug 1945)
Notes for Henry William Knaus:
Grade and high school in Chicago, IL.Two year course in Pharmacy at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.
His spirit and health were undermined by the depression of 1928 and he worried because he lost so much property which carried mortgages he could not pay.It had been his ambition to give each of his girls a house when they married and he was unable to do this.
6' tall, slender, 150 lbs. grey eyes and blond in youth but lost his hair when very young.Nice regular features and considered to be a handsome man.
He was a fun loving and generous with his compliments. His three girls could do no wrong and he called them his beautiful flowers. Each thought she was his favorite child as he had confidentially told each that they were because of the great pleasure they had given him and their mother.Years later they compared noted and laughed about it.
He loved to tease his wife in fun.He could always start something by saying "Your father was an honest plumber wasn't he Em?" and she would take the bait and talk about her father, his foresight in buying Chicgo real estate in 1870 his good work habits, etc.It never failed. He could also innocently say "Well, I'm the youngest man in the house" and Emily would get upset, which the girls thought was funny because he was the only man in the house. It wasn't until the girls were married that they learned that Emily was older than Henry and that he was teasing her about it.His mother was olde than his father too and he was brought up in that kind of teasing which he continued.
Always a good provider for his family and a good and understanding parent. He died at the summer home in the Lake Geneva Beach Association at Lake Geneva, WI.
