| The name PROFFEN goes back to old Germany. Today in the year 2002 there are many individuals living in modern Germany bearing this surname. When the name PROFFEN came to America is not known. Today, there are only a handful of persons with this surname living in the United States. The PROFFENs living in Maryland all trace the family origin back to Germany. Our first known ancester who emigrated to this country was Ferdinand W. Proffen who entered the U.S. through the Port of New York abt. 1846. He married in NY, a german young lady who followed him a short time later. The PROFFEN ancestral linenage include CAVE, WIGLEY, SELLMAN, SUGGS, BOHN, O'BREIN, PFORR, DAWSON, HALL, `MURPHY< WALKER, HAHN, CARL, WOOL,EVANS, WILLIAMSON, FISHER and others as yet not discovered. |
